Yes, it would. I said "consistently mediocre". I didn't say that's what he has been, or what he is right now, only that if that is what he becomes, Hutchinson is better.

The same Hutch that was hammered for 6 months last season before being left off the playoff roster? The same Hutch who has spent the season in the minors?

Dickey is most definitely mediocre but mediocre is still several rungs ahead of Hutch. 2 bad starts and people forget that he posted an ERA of barely over 3.00 for May 1st to the Allstar break.

Dickey is inconsistent.

I was one who didn't mind the trade at the time. Prospects for a Cy young winner (an aging one at that.) why not?? but most us will admit by now it was a bad trade.

Most middling pitchers are inconsistent. If you're constantly good, you're a star. If you're consistently bad then you're unemployed. People searching for a roster full of consistent players should probably stop watching MLB.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.

If you look at Dickey outside of the trade, he's had a generally good run with us. Lots of innings, never injured, and was a solid part of our playoff season last year. It's unfair that he's associated with Syndergaard forever, but it is what it is.

I think the problem Jay's fans have with Dickey is partly the trade, partly that he's 40 years old but the two biggest factors are that he hasn't been nearly as good as advertised and people seem to have a general disdain for knuckleballers.

Personally, I hate watching him pitch but like you said, he's been a reliable and solid starter for over 3.5 years now.

Id say the main problem is he isn't as good as he was supposed to be... He came off 2 straight seasons posting an era under 3.00, winning a Cy young in the latter... I think if he put up the same numbers here, no one would give a **** that he was a knuckleballer.
