How much in contracts are Waiters/JJ/Derrick/Babbit and Ellington. Maybe we can trade them for Wade and get down to a 15 man roster :-)

I think we all agree these players HAVE TO get at least 32 minutes each :

Dragic
J-Rich
TJ
Winslow

Then you just gave Ellington 6 Mil$ (to never play? makes no sense), and Waiters would not have signed if he thought he'll never get minutes.

It just doesn't add up.
Even if Weber and Mcgruber never ever get any minutes (which they should in a developing year) - it still doesn't make sense.

PG : Dragic-34 / TJ-14 / Weber-0

SF : Justise-34 / D.Williams or J.Johnson or Babbit - 14 minutes

SG : J-Rich-32 / TJ-16/ Whoever left - 0 minutes

THAT'S IT. There's ZERO minutes available for Ellington and Waiters, if you give Rich and TJ 32 minutes each. WHICH IS A MUST.

What the hell are we doing?

Perhaps to round off the off-season we're trading Winslow and Jrich for a sniff at Blake Griffin's jockstrap.

But that would be an horrible move too.

Blake is a free agent next year, If he wants to come here he can come for free. We're not contending this year anyway, makes no sense losing 2 prime assets when you can get him for free in a year. You can't gut our team future for no reason.

I wasn't being serious.

Shame.

You know that Chicago would love to do that trade.

we can throw McRob in, perhaps that would tip the balance.

The roster's a mess not sure what Riles is doing. TJ, Jrich, Ellington and now Waiters being signed. How will the minutes be allocated? Jrich and TJ should be getting the bulk.

Getting all these two guards for the low isn't the worst idea. Injuries happen and the regular season is long. It's not an outrageous idea to have Ellington and waiters compete for minutes with our projected young core guys like tj and Jrich. Having depth during the regular season is a great idea and both offer strengths that our team lacks such as shooting, play-making, shot creation and defensive versatility in waiters case. He's big enough to guard a lot of 3's in smaller lineups. If neither of these guys work out, it won't be the end of the world and we can move on. Waiters is unlikely to pick up that player option next year. I wasn't so impressed with a dude like mcgruder that I'll be sad to see him lose this opportunity.

As everyone here agrees if we're not challenging then we want to see a lot of JRich, TJ, Winslow and Whiteside (some of you want Dragic too) and then we want Weber, McGruder and Reed, on top of that we have UD and Bosh. We've got no time and no interest in watching rental rubbish like Derrick, Babbs and Waiters.

These 3 are not the same :

D.Williams - actually had a very good year last season. Got a 1 year deal from us. Fits our style (high tempo athletic PF).

Babbit - He's getting the minimum, he can really hit 3's (which this roster needs), and we got his bird right too (just in case he proves to a decent rotation guy)

Waiters - Character issues, Takes away minutes from our future (Rich/TJ/Winslow), bad last season, we gave a player option for next year.............WTF?!?!

He's smaller than Wade, he can't guard SF

I'm not even sure he can guard SG's.

I only found a few gifs, but these two are from that series with san antonio. Both are agianst the 4th or 5th best player in the world claw Leonard.

Image

looks aggressive here and willing to get up in a bigger guys jersey. Slid his feet well and denied the drive. I saw a decent amount of that in that series specifically against Kawhi.

Image

lower body strength looked good there as well. denies a back down to a larger dude and takes advantage of a momentary concentration lapse with a good ball swipe then pursued a decent gamble considering Leonard lost control of the dribble.

He takes unnecessary gambles sometimes, gets overly physical, and loses track of a man here and there when i watch him, but he's tenacious and a solid 1 on 1 guy when locked in. He weighs almost 230, which is pretty much the same as justise, and that gives him the lower body strength to guard bigger guys especially in the post cause guys struggle more than they think they will when backing him down. Quick enough to stay in front of 1's and 2's. I mean, its worth a 3 million dollar gamble. I'm not a huge fan of him either, but it makes a lil sense. MAybe not tho. we shall see. Overall, he's definitly not someone i like as a player and i wish there was another alternative.

Plus, we might be underestimating the position versatility these guys may be asked to exemplify this season. Justise and Jrich could be playing a lot more minutes at the next position up, thus opening up more room for guys like waiters and tj at the guard spots, and maybe waiters and ellington at the 3 in smaller lineups. Positionless basketball will be a term thrown around a lot in press conferences this season.

What about JJ and Derrick than? Doesn't make sense

Trying to justify the signing of Waiters actually makes it sound worse.

Just realized they never had a press conference for Hassan, not making anything out of that but I thought they always did it for major signings even our own FA.

Waiter's press conference is Riley's number #1 priority.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=h2h3tjs
just for kicks and worst case bosh retires

pg: westbrook/udrih/weber
sg: johnson/ellington/mcgruder
sf: waiters/johnson/babbitt
pf: winslow/williams/haslem
c: whiteside/reed

we can then lock up WB to a multi year and have cap space to go after BG in 2017
