I had a hard time choosing between Stockton and Allen, but I figured I could get great shooters deeper in the draft

For the Stop Shooting! category, I select Allen Iverson, 2003-04.

This was an injury-riddled season for AI but he still put up a 26.4 ppg, 6.8 apg, 2.4 spg. I envision AI as the 6th man on my team.

Nice, was curious who would pull the trigger on AI.

Since I still don't have a big man and I need a defensive anchor... I select Shawn Kemp, 1995-96, for the Hoosiers category.

Image

The Reignman averaged 19.6 ppg and 11.4 rpg in the regular season. In the 1996 NBA finals, which was the peak of his career, Kemp averaged 23.3 ppg and 10 rpg.

I came very close to picking Kemp in the 2nd round. He was my backup plan to Malone. I desperately wanted a nasty finisher to play next to Magic.

Diop selects Chris Paul using the rookie category 2005-06. 16.1ppg, 7.8apg, Rookie of the Year.

Paul, the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, averaged rookie highs of 16.1 points, 7.8 assists, 2.24 steals and posted 21 double-doubles to lead the Hornets to a 20-win improvement over last season, the biggest turnaround in the NBA this season. He led the league in total steals with 175, becoming only the second rookie in NBA history to accomplish that feat (Brevin Knight, 1997-98), ranked third in steals per game, fifth in total assists (611) and seventh in assists per game.

Continuing the theme of selecting players with high IQ, great passing, winning mindset, willing to sacrifice for the team, players who made everyone around them better...

Team Fats select Manu Ginobili, 2007-08, Southpaw.

19.5ppg
4.8rpg
4.5apg
1.5spg
40.1% from 3pt (on 5.3 attempts/game)
6th man of the year

I'm stoked to select one of my all-time favorite players, one of the most underrated players in history, during his best season as NBA player. Another player who will fit perfectly on a team built for passing, and running the fast break.

Check out the passing

The age old question - what sort of point guard plays best with LeBron James? My team is funneling our offense through LeBron, so it can't be a PG with a big ego that needs to control the flow of the offense. With that said, in order to utilize the perimeter options on this team, it has to be someone that can also facilitate ball movement and create offense with his passing. I also don't want someone who is afraid to score a basket while defenses focus on our other scoring options.

My team has two subpar rebounders and just okish defenders in Peja and Reggie on this team, so we need a strong defender and rebounder at PG. Given the ridiculously efficient scoring on this team, I also don't want a PG that is going to turn the ball over.

Put all this together, and you get my 4th round pick in the Stone Hands category - Lafayette Lever, 1987-88, in which he was an All Star and Second Team All Defense.

Check out this absurd stat line - 18.9 pts on 47.3% FG, 8.1 boards (reminder, he was a 6'3" point guard), 7.8 assists, 2.7 stl, and only 2.2 tos. It's tough to pick out his best game of that season - was it his game against the Nets on 11/24/87 where he put up 21 points (9 - 11 FG), 13 boards, 14 ast, and 8 stl in just 28 minutes? or his game against Cleveland on 3/2/88 where he put up 20 points, 20 boards, 12 ast, and 6 stl? Fat Lever is one of only 6 players in the 3 point era to average 18 pts, 8 boards, and 7 assists per game. Only two players have ever averaged those stats and turned the ball over less than 200 times in a season - Fat Lever did that three times, including the 1987-88 season.

One commentator described Fat Lever thusly:

I hesitate to use absolutes in any discussion over basketball, but I think it’s very highly absolutely unlikely we’ll see another player like Fat Lever. Judicious passing, unflappable ball-handling, lightning hands for steals and, the real separator, that ridiculous knack for rebounding unknown for someone 6’3″. All of these skills united to produce the 6th most triple doubles in NBA history (43).

Seriously, Kyrie Irving and Chris Paul aren’t getting a 20/20 in points and rebounds.

Give it up for Fat.
