Skal starting?

Post#1 » by kingleo702 » Mon Jul 25, 2016 9:18 pm

I saw the Summer League team live and Skal was really impressive especially when looking at Stein too. What are the chances he gets the starting nod if he keeps improving over the summer?

Starting to begin the season? I'd say slim to none.
Towards the end of the season? It's a definite possibility in the improvements continue to pile up.

At the moment WCS fits well next to DMC and they already have good chemistry together. No need to mess that up through experimentation unless something magical happens with the Skal-DMC rotation in training camp.

I don't think Skal is in a position where he will be able to start this year (with the exception being if a tank is initiated and the season is over), but I really hope they keep him with the Kings and not just bury him in Reno. He's probably going to have to spend some time in Reno, but I think he will be much better served by spending time with the Kings and learning from the veterans about how the game really works.

He has a ton of raw talent that he needs to develop and fine tune. Obviously it will be nice for his confidence if he tears up the D-League, but it can also backfire if he struggles. Putting him on the bench and having him battle it out with Boogie/WCS in practice every day will be good for his development long term. I just hope they utilize him properly as a sort of modified Channing Frye-type in his rookie season and let him stick to his strengths.

I'd let him fight for it, if he has a good summer of development and impresses in camp.

His first step would be displacing Tolliver from the rotation. That's probably his ceiling this season.

Skal as Hillary VP?

LOL, settle down, I've got him pegged at Rasheed level or so ceiling, so I'm excited too.

Let's at least watch him in pre season first and see how WCS does, and what Skal need to work on.

I like his potential and I think he will only get better. But he isn't even at the stage where he should be getting 10 mins on a slow night. Especially on a Joeger coached team. Gonna need to see more on the defensive end for sure.

I would be more worried about Willie. Tolliver is a specialist so he'll find minutes, that next big slot shotblocker/defender is clearly between Willie and Skal. If Willie looks anything like he did this summer then Skal better come prepared.

He's solid on defense.. He will be good at pick and roll right away and can block shots it's big PFs he'd have a problem with but those are a dying breed

I'm working under the assumption that WCS is going to start next to Cousins and then you have Koufos and Papa fighting for one backup slot and Tolliver and Skal for the other.

From what I seen in summer league he has a ways to go before you could say he is solid in a Dave Joeger defensive set.

To me WCS is a solid follower/role player that you want next to your best players, not necessarily to be one of them. He's the type that will play to the level of those around him. He didn't look good in summer league because there were no good players to play off of. He was expected to be THE guy, and that's not really his role. He was great when he was able to run with Rondo, Gay and Cousins. Swap Rondo/Mclemore with Collison/Afllalo and I think the line up is stronger. As long as there are solid vets that play their role at a high level, I have hope that Willie will be able to bring his game.

I see a crop of role players, including Willie obviously, where there is some crossover but some do certain things others don't, so whoever starts or plays will probably come down to need. Right now I would think Willie should have a decent shot at the starting spot though.

Rudy? If they can't move him for value, does that deserve another look despite how it looked at times under Karl? If our young guys don't look ready in camp that is. Rudy still looks confident in playing the 4 in his latest abc10 video. He would fit the spacing angle. The reason they may be moving Rudy is their belief in Omri as a player, as well as the increased spacing around Cuz he provides

They can't keep Rudy at this point. He's publicly made comments multiple times now making it very clear that he is unhappy and he wants out.

I don't think it's conclusive he doesn't want to be here, but even if he didn't someone has to give value. He's been rumored on the market since last deadline but especially recently, with no one biting yet. Could be no one wants to give value, and I can't see the Kings dumping even if he didn't want to be here

If Vlade had a deal on the table he liked Gay would be gone. Doesnt seem like the market is demanding Rudy. I think he will be a deadline deal which won't bring in much. At this point we can hope for a prospect with some potential.

Did you see his most recent interview? It sounded to me like he is willing to try to make it work here. He made it pretty clear that he would not be a problem if he stays in Sacramento.

I disagree it sounded to me like he's hoping Vlade can get him moved to a winning team.

Which part of the interview sounded like that? I didn't get that at all.
