Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
I'd be willing to give up the Brooklyn 18 for Westbrook, but hard pass on the 17 if he's not signing an extension.
I don't really even want Griffin, especially not for the Brooklyn 17. But LA can have 18, as long as a Westbrook deal is dead in the water.
Westbrook pushes the needle, Griffin doesn't.

Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
I was told that if anything happens, it is highly likely to happen within the next week and a half, before the Olympics start. That keeps with the timeline I've heard all along.
And this source reminded me that things were very, very quiet at this time in 2007 before the KG trade. That trade had similar moving pieces in it too.
FWIW, I don't think either deal goes down. I think both LAC and OKC ultimately choose to hold on their pieces.

I feel like OKC shouldn't have the leverage to get both Brown and Brooklyn 17. We gotta hang onto one, preferably Brown.

Westbrook, Bradley, Crowder, Griffin and Horford with Thomas as 6th man of the year would be pretty sweet tho.

Do you really think there is going to be a lockout? What do the owners hope to accomplish they are already under spending the BRI split. The players opting out makes more sense than the owners at this point.
I do. I think it will be a short one and no games will be missed. But in order to renegotiate the CBA (something both sides want for various pieces) it is almost a necessity.
Things that certainly need adjusted are salary amount of Exceptions and also the Rookie Scale.
Beyond that the league wants to push through D-League reform and to attempt to bring back up the age limit.
I have to ask; for the age limit do you mean in order to enter the draft when it's already 19? Or do you mean to be in the D-League?
If it's for the draft, up to what? 3 years like the NFL? I may not hate that cause it'll revive the college game a little, but I never bought that a guy ready at 18 should have to do a year of college/year of euro ball just so the NBA can save face.
The NBA wants the age limit at 20 (basically 2 years out of high school). The NBPA wants it eliminated entirely. Lots of people think the compromise will involve something related to long term D-League assignments, potentially a set up where the player's salary doesn't count against the NBA cap if he spends the year in the D-League.

Funny enough. I just got told that Thomas would be the 6th man if the ideal scenario plays out.
But the same source said the Celtics could add Bradley or Crowder and remove Brown and/or picks to get it done. He says the Celtics are the most motivated team to pull off a superstar trade that he's seen in his 20+ years in the league.

Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
So we'd keep Avery, Crowder and Isaiah, get Westbrook and Griffin. Losing Smart and both BKN picks.
Okay, on one hand we have no future. On the other hand if we pull this off we're probably better than Cleveland..

Future is overrated. If you have the chance to build a contender, then you should go for it imo. That's what they did in 2008 and Danny Ainge still managed to turn those old guys into the assets that he will hopefully use to build this contender with.

This would be my preference especially if it comes with everyone committed at least 3 years. Definitely title contenders. Throw my man Larry Sanders a bone too.
Even if Westbrook didn't agree to an extension immediately the Celtics have to be the front runners to retain him with a **** of talent, being able to offer the most $$, a great coach and a front office proven they will do whatever to win.

Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
If KD had gone somewhere other than OKC or GS we'd be looking at being the title favorites with these trades I think.
