That is the part that pulls me back in every single time. I have a lot of trouble reconciling what is happening with the Boston roster without some other moves coming.

I know but didn't we say the same thing last year?

I certainly didn't. Especially when they didn't hold off on signing draft picks and things like that.

This is way off.

You ignored the part that has been stated over and over that Doc loves Rudy Gay. And he LOVED the way they played when they went small with Mbah a Moute at PF. And Amir Johnson is far from a scrub.

Gay, Johnson, and a BRK pick is a pretty nice return for a guy who has a questionable future in LA.

Yep, the only way I see LAC falling in love with this is if they become enamored with small ball with gay/jordan at the 4/5. Think it would work well with CP3 and shooters. I'd get why they'd waiver on this.

Don't ignore Mbah a Moute. That guy is really, really good for LAC wants him to do.

Oh I know that, and what I was saying is we all thought there was gonna be another shoe to drop due to the roster compilation. But, nothing ever happened. That was my point. But, I am sure talks were ongoing.

Different source just said:

"Boston thinks they can get a title and beat the Warriors if they pull this off. And a title would make it awfully hard for Griffin or Westbrook to leave. They might just dive in and let it play out. And don't underestimate how good an extra motivated Westbrook will be. He could be the MVP of the league."

So Westbrook can't renegotiate as part of a trade, that sort of kills any chance of their being an extension.

Ha! Sorry man. I tend to be overly realistic. I just can't see one team pulling off two huge trades for superstars, with a ton of moving parts including picks, in one summer. Seems fairly far fetched to me. But these are sources I trust implicitly, so I'm sharing.

OTOH - the makeup of the bottom 3rd of the roster hardly matters, and this fits Ainge's pattern of combo guard mania / length and athleticism phobia "asset building.". Gathering a small army of bench guards without big man balance is nothing new.

Even an NBA Finals or a close ECF Finals against Cleveland still makes it hard for them to leave. If Cleveland or GSW don't fall next summer to us, they won't fall to anybody else (if the trades do happen), so yeah, not like they got a better choice

I think I now understand why Okafor hasn't happened.

Yeah, Danny won't offer much for him.

Say we traded for Griffin, but not Westbrook....would we have max space in the offseason?

I agree with this we may not win it all but we are a top 3 team without any argument and that's a great position to be in. We can also pay these guys the most money I just don't see them leaving. I'd be fine pulling the trigger if the front office believes it's the right moves. Probably the best shot we can get at winning anytime soon.

Smitty731 wrote:I can guarantee you if you run the OKC part by a Thunder fan they will say it isn't enough. Two sides to every story. Brown and BRK picks haven't even played a real game yet. There is absolutely no way you can say with firm commitment that they are any better than Westbrook, who is an established top 5-10 player in the entire league.

I don't doubt that but it is very clearly more than we have outgoing in the Griffin trade rumor by a wide margin. I'm trying to understand why the trade package is so much more for Westbrook than Griffin. Would that be because the Westbrook trade assumes more guaranteed years than Griffin or is Griffin's value just that low now.

Probably not if Griffin is staying.

Cleveland might have one more year to compete and then it's a 4-5 year GS/Celtic rivalry ala Celtics/Lakers of the 80s. I can dream.

Cleveland will compete until LeBron retires or turns 40 or so. That dude is a machine and he's not slowing down.

As with other teams that have had stars leave, the biggest part of that return may simply be tanking with their own draft pick next year. That's just their reality right now.

With Presti at the helm, it's not a terrible plan.

Trade Westbrook for a top 10ish pick, and a couple of other prospects/picks, then tank for a top 5.

Right back in it within two years.

Very true, but weird things happen sometimes. But, until something weird happens, they will compete, but doesn't mean they will win.

He has to at some point, again we would be top 3 which would put us in the mix. It would be a lot of fun to watch the next few years! I think we would sign Larry Sanders too for more big man depth. I don't have any sources just guessing and enjoying all the speculation!!
