UNC Vet Felton Plans To Stay On UNC Rookie Johnson

“I used to get on him back in the day about playing hard,” Felton said. “He did that (last season), that’s why he put himself in a great situation to get drafted. My biggest thing with him is to play hard and bring it, and I’m going to demand it out of him, for sure.”

Throughout his college career, Johnson said North Carolina head coach Roy Williams stayed in his ear, constantly pushing him to take his game to another level.

Evidently, Felton was doing the same, and Felton said that’s not going to change now that the two North Carolina stars, who played a decade apart, will become teammates.

Felton added Monday after officially signing his contract with the Clippers that he wants to be a leader. Considering Johnson already knows Felton, the rookie will likely hear plenty from the 32-year-old veteran throughout the year.

“I like young fella,” Felton said. “I’m going to be on him, though.”

Brice Johnson Out Indefinitely With Herniated Disc

Johnson suffered an acute herniated disc in his lower back in the fourth quarter, and head coach Doc Rivers confirmed Saturday there’s currently no timetable for his return.

“That’s tough for a rookie,” Rivers said. “He’s not going to miss the year or anything, but just missing two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, for a guy who’s that young, that’s a hard break for him. But it happens.”

Rivers said he doesn’t think Johnson will need surgery, but there’s never a good time to miss for a young player.

After missing Friday’s practice, Rivers said flexibility is something Johnson’s going to need to work on despite his obvious athleticism.

“We identified that in camp for summer league,” Rivers said. “That’s a great example where your eyes tell you a lot of stuff, and the numbers back it up.”

Damn that's too bad, really hoping it doesn't have any long term effect in his athleticism

I hope he isn't out for too long. Hopefully he can get some PT at some point this season.
