Then there's no way he leaves. But man, that's an awfully big risk. I dont like the risk/reward situation that presents itself here by gutting our inventory. We inherit the risk of them walking. It's not like they're on bad teams like Demarcus Cousins or Kevin Love. These two guys are wanting to test the market when they're already on competitive teams in the West. That's too dangerous for me to want to consider. I'm honestly worried we blow our chance on this by rolling the dice and it's all or nothing. I hate those odds. 50/50 odds suck with regard to assets retention and loss. That boarders on Big Balls/Stupid territory; Case for either could be made. If this trade goes down with the two of them, We may never know the real story. What if Wyc was the meddler in all this? What if he demanded Danny to pull the trigger and blow everything on these two, and then they walk after we lose in the finals or the ECF? Do you think Wyc would say it's his fault for meddling? I'm not so sure about that. Wyc may point to danny and say, your gonna be the fall guy. That would be diabolical. The reality is, we would never know who really pushed for this. Just food for thought.

Could be Wyc is mad after all those boos on draft night! Wants a contending team right now!

I have a guest visiting me who is a big time hoops guru that lives in OKC. He is a Celts fan first, but has also adopted the Thunder upon their move into the area.
He is not a source with tie in to the Thunder organization, but I thought it was interesting this morning when over coffee he said that he has never liked Westbrook and felt like he is the reason Durant ultimately left. He talked about hero ball, turnovers and pissing contests that RW and KD seemingly had.
He also told me that he knew Blake's family and followed Blake closely during High school and his OU days... he said as a Celtics fan he would much rather the Celts traded for Griffin > Westbrook.
I share this because it's a perspective of someone with knowledge of the game that just so happens to be very familiar with ALL parties that could potentially be involved in any Celtics blockbuster.
I don't agree with him entirely, and I think I'd prefer Westbrook because of the "freak factor", but this was interesting to say the least.

I am sure Blake is a more "fun" locker room piece and probably easier to play with on the court, but Westbrook is healthier and just plain better.

Unsigned non-draft-and-stash 1st round draft picks: Ingram (LAL), Brown (BOS), Maker (MIL), Sabonis (OKC)
This was from awhile ago:

I NEED real rumors.

The Lakers are developing 3 guys who they want to be franchise cornerstones. How the hell is adding Westbrook gonna help that? And if he goes to LA they're still worse than OKC even without him!

Yeah, I can definitely get behind the idea KD left because of Westbrook despite being friends with him. I always felt that despite his talent, that OKC team would of been better with a real PG and/or someone like Avery Bradley.

I just don't think he's going to get away from hero ball in GS. But I mean, is what it is as this point.

I'd still really like to get Westbrook but also on board with Griffin, but for less assets.

Im more interested in Blake too to be honest. He should come cheaper and his game should age better and he's a year younger.

Russ is an elite talent obviously but the price/risk seems too high. Give me Blake, and keep building for the future. Let's have our cake and eat it too.

Hear is how you know it is bogus: Ainge never said that quote. There is no chance he talked openly about other players that aren't on the Celtics and their contracts. That is a serious violation. No one would do that on the record for fear of the backlash from the league.

I don't think that was even written by a human.

Westbrook seems like a bad fit. What is point of having guys like Jae and Horford standing around watching ISO ball. I think IT plus Brown, Smart, 2017 Nets pick and Memphis 2019 is better, cheaper and can be used to get another max guy up front. Stars are necessary to win but it's easier to fill in for a Westbrook with what we have than to fill in for a Duncan with KOs. Get Blake if you really can and shoot for a quality forward like Kawai or a shooting guard like Hayward or Butler next year.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Let me call Danny and find out and I'll ask him if we are getting Blake and Russ as well lol. I have no idea, I think maybe it could just be to have another big off the bench. We drafted him and have to hope he turns into a player now. One thing is for sure if these deals DO go down that are rumored, we would need some bigs. I think they would sign Larry Sanders if they pull any of these off.

I know originally reports were that Nader would be a D-League stash but I'm not so sure if that happens now, some say he didn't want that. Also he had a good showing in Summer League so I don't know, interesting thing to watch out for no doubt.

Well Jae and Horford are perfect for iso ball they are catch and shoot guys. Thomas and Griffin is more of a concern. I think people need to come to terms with the fact that the game has changed and TD has retired. Do it all wings and speedy guards are the difference makers in the league now. Westbrook is an absolute force put the right cast around him and your going to make the final four for 4 or 5 years.

I am a Kevin Durant guy but this postseason Westbrook completely outplayed his ass.

Nader agreed to stash before draft. Danny keeps his word - remember Orien Green promise over Amir - so he expects Nader to do same. If he doesn't so be it - a 58 pick is worthless even if Nader is worth more than that.

Also, last summer Johnny the wad Holmes averaged 10/5 and shot 46% from 3 pt range and where is he now?

Maybe Nader can still be talked into being an international/D-League stash. That way, Cs keep his draft rights. Bentil probably wanted a legit shot at NBA now. If he does well in camp or if roster spot opens up after trade, maybe Cs keep him. If he still gets waived, some other team might pick him up.

Spoiler:
I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Nader agreed to go to the D league for a year and let Boston keep his draft rights. Bentil needs make the 15 man roster or get cut. Bentil figures he will take the guaranteed money and if he gets cut and goes to the D league and he can sign with the first team that wants him. Boston has a track record of adding players from Maine at the end of the season to give them a year of service time and so they can be used as trade fodder in the off season if there are open roster spots Nader is probably first in line for that gig.

Return to Boston Celtics
