Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 28, 2016 9:54 pm

David Lee has agreed to sign a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

The second year of the deal is a player option for Lee.

Lee played for the Celtics and Mavericks this past season following his trade from the Warriors.

Nice one, he can still play, pretty good off the bench.

His per -36 numbers last season were 16/10/4. If healthy he will play a significant roll. And before you say it.... Pop will find a way for him to be effective on defense.

Took 2 years for the Warriors and Spurs to swap David Lee for David West.

Odd signing for the Spurs - doesn't seem like a Pop kind of player. I expect he'll be a situational big off the bench at most.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Actually even a little better: 17/12/3.5, on 57% TS. Still might not play as much as you think, though, given how little he's proved to help team offense or defense in the past.

Actually I was somehow just looking at Boston; he played much better for the Mavs where his per-36 was 17.7/14.6/2.5. And I don't think he will play a ton of minutes but Pop spreads the minutes out. Bonner always got a few starts a year and played key minutes in the playoffs.

But I think Lee gets a bad rap because of his injuries and the size of his contract. If he had been playing for the MLE in GS fans would have loved him. But however overpaid many people thought he was, Lee played an important role during GS's championship run. So in the end he was worth every penny. And with the front court injuries GS had this year, his presence might have been just enough to change the outcome. They definitely could have used a few rebounds!

What's better, their front court this year, or last year? I'd give it a slight edge this year.

I like the addition of him and Gasol to this team....way to bounce back in free agency...

When there's a Pop, there's a way.
