Your preseason power rankings

Post#1 » by bleu » Sat Jul 30, 2016 6:44 am

With the preseason starting in just over a week, let's see everyone's power rankings. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong as well. I'm curious to see where you all have everyone. We can look back at the end of the season and add postseason power rankings as well.

1. Arizona Cardinals
2. Carolina Panthers
3. New England Patriots
4. Pittsburgh Steelers

Cowboys. Going undefeated this year. Best defense in football and the best GM, ever. Opps, aren't I suppose to be in the smack talk thread?

Yeah, I might be the conductor of the hype train for them (which is weird cause I dislike the Steelers... :dontknow: ), but I think they're set for a really big year. I guess considering the losses of Martavis Bryant for the season and Le'Veon Bell for four games (in a front loaded schedule) I might bump them down a tiny bit, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them take the top seed in the AFC this year.

Agreed, there's a lot of guesswork going into most of those ones.

You're pretty high on Dallas too, huh? Maybe I just need to be convinced, idk. I really can't see them as a top 10 team, guess we'll see though. And Jacksonville as well?

Yeah, this is giving them the benefit of the doubt of staying healthy, then looking back at 2014 rather than '15. I think Elliot on day one is better than Murray was. Cobble together some defense, and they should get 11+ wins without much effort.

No, I actually really dislike the Cowboy's in general. I just can't deny how much better they should be with a healthy Romo. 12-4 the previous year when everyone was fairly healthy. I hope it's not a repeat. But, they should win the East quite easily.

I've done this at a couple sites already. I have looked at profootballreference ,last years over all stats and clicked on each individual stat for leaders. This is what I project for the upcoming season. I'm not going to mimic last years ending over all.
besides, this mirrors my division predictions except for a couple teams.

2-Vikings
3-Steelers
4-Saints
5-Giants
6- Cardinals
7-Packers
8-Falcons

It has nothing to do with any hate. I hate no team..ok the Pats are annoying...but this is completely indifferent.

The Panthers are up and down year to year the last few. They were 8-7-1 two years ago.
Cam got lucky on long balls and it wont happen again.

Haha, I take no personal offense. I mean, I would be puzzled and curious about the ranking, if it weren't coming from a poster who just said that the Colts are going to be the best team in the NFL this year, followed by the Vikings, Steelers, and Giants. And New England is going to be #15?

I mean look, I get that an accurate power ranking takes more than just looking at last year's record. There's a lot more that should go into it. But I would LOVE, I mean, it would make my day, to hear how the Vikings and the Colts are going to be two of the top three teams in the NFL.

I'll edit over the next 4 weeks before season starts lol but it will still be generally as is.
---I dont see a date automatically show up when I do edit ike some sites---I dont want my honesty questioned :-x

Colts-even if they arent top 2,theyll be top 6 in AFC therefore top 12 because theyll win the division.
last year they did well even when Luck was out and were projected to get to SB in the first place.
I moved ATL TO 7 for now. They were top 7 in yards last year,7th in total plays..thats not why I moved them to 7th,just showing they ranked high in those categories last year
10th in yards per play
5th in turn overs...thats what mess up the year and I can predict that changing
13 fumbles lost by player or team = 4th place. That can just be bad luck and other factors that wont repeat.
3rd in first downs..that seems to translate to turn overs constantly happening in the red zone which is freakish.
5th in passes completed
6th in passing yards,but 25th in total passing td's.
9th in ints thrown
4th in first downs passing
20th in rushing yards
14th with rushing TDs
13th in 1st downs rushing
25th in penalty yards committed
2nd in percentage of drives ending in offensive turn over

Atlanta is 21st in over all offense only because of those 2 stats and I bet they dont turn the ball over that much again.
Defense- the head coach is a ex Seattle defense coach guy and they were a respectable 14th over all last year.
16th in yards allowed.
Its no stretch to see them as a top 10 defense this year.

Damn, EDG, it looks like you spent too much time on PFR. It might be helpful to take a step back to see the whole forest. Speaking of the Colts specifically since you picked them to be number 1 in your power rankings, they were 24th best at scoring points, they were 25th best at preventing scoring of points. Their record was a game below .500 when Luck was in and a game above with him out with no considerable change in how they were scoring points or playing defense. Point being is that they aren't a particularly awe-inspiring team and have done nothing this offseason to make a person think they will be dramatically better. It's more likely Pagano is fired at the end of the year than the Colts go to the Super Bowl.

It's more likely Pagano is fired at the end of the year than the Colts go to the Super Bowl.

again, all that was because Luck was injured. They were in the conference championship the year before with basically the same team. They went 8-8 which isnt bad for all those issues.

thats what I broke down the stats for, to see the whole forest. Atlanta's over all ranking is deceiving obviously.
forest? dont talk to me about forests. I moved to Oregon a year ago.

there were 7 geese in the back acre 2 weeks ago, that was interesting
