If he can stay healthy, he's the type of talent that can create his own ceiling.

Now we're comparing a 22 year old that played 0 NBA games and 12 college games to Shaq and Hakeem?

I know, this is ridiculous... right now his ceiling is below GREG ODEN who has at least played in an NBA game.

This is ridiculous Its too early to tell. A better question is how good will Embiid's great grandson will be? Will he surpass Brock Lesnar or Tom Brady? Who knows but its definitely a better question than this one.
Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way.

He's gonna be lucky to play half as long as Bynum.

If he is ever able to stay healthy, he is the best center prospect in a long time. I think better than Oden. So if there is even a small possibility of his health issues working out then his ceiling is quite high, high enough where he could be a top 3-5 player in the NBA during his prime. We'll see about the health but he has an amazing tool box.

also, if he starts playing well this year I hope everyone keeps up the same tune. Be consistent

A lot of people will be immensely disappointed when he turns out to be a 20 mpg player off the bench.

Embiid is the best big man prospect since Duncan. Yes, better than KAT. No GM would take Embiid over KAT because if injuries though. If Embiid has a healthy career then he will be an all time center. Health is the key.

He doesn't have the sheer power or girth as Shaq and will play a totally different style.

I think the closest comp is Kareem. He is the only guy with that kind of size, skill and athleticism that the game has seen. The kid has amazing ability to pick up things quickly and only started playing basketball in 2010 or 2011. He starts 2013 coming off the bench at Kansas and within 20 games he is the concensus #1 pick in the draft over the pre-ordained next great ones, Jabari and Wiggins. The big question is health but the foot has fully healed now and he doesn't seem to have lost anything. He has taken the time to strengthen and remold his body and improve the finesse components of his game.

Embiid is what "The Process" was all about.

I guess the Hakeem comparisons weren't enough for (one of) you Sixer fans. No, you are now comparing him to arguably the greatest player in the history of basketball. I've seen it all.

PS: To the Lakers fan who made this thread, I think that this thread would've gone better if you had just put the title as "Embiid's Ceiling" and left it at that.

You must be mistaking Kareem for Magic Johnson, the greatest of all time.

Also, what is the margin here? No matter how you may rate one over the other, Hakeem & Shaq are pretty much at the very top of the list when comparing all-time centers.

The guy obviously has a nice skillset on him, and he has strength to back it up. He's not stringy like manute bol or Dikembe mutombo. If he's healthy his ceiling is extremely high, were talking top 10 center talent. He's a freakish specimen similar to Shaq, not just because he's 7'2, but if you've seen footage of him, he's a strong 7'2 that is very mobile for a guy his size. I don't think Shaq/Hakeem comparison is far off in terms of ceiling or potential.

He will be a dominating center if he is healthy.

Pretty sure he has GOAT potential.

Celing: GOAT
Base: Duncan

I mean he only started playing the game in 2011 and hes already the greatest prospect of all-time. He's smarter than Duncan and taller than Yao. He'a stronger than Shaq and faster than Hakeem.

Yeah this is what all this ridiculous hype sounds like.

Ellison was 6-9 220 pounds. How can you physically comp him to a guy who is 7-2, 270ish pounds, 9-7 wing span? They are totally different things physically.

"9-7" wingspan.. Now I've heard it all. You're telling me his wingspan is more than 2 feet longer than his height...

For the record, his wingspan is 7 feet 5 inches.
