Javier Vazquez

Post#1 » by cmaff051 » Fri Jul 6, 2007 5:49 pm

I keep thinking about this, but I think Javier Vazquez would be a perfect move for the Mets. I don't think he would command much (Humber + somebody else), and he fits Shea Stadium perfectly. He is a well known flyball pitcher, but luckily he'll pitch half of his games at Shea Stadium, a very good pitcher's park that supresses home runs. He's durable, he strikes out a ton of guys and doesn't walk many, and the last time he was in the NL in a pitcher's park (back in 2003), he was terrific.

Thoughts? Forget about Buerhle who is going to command too much, forget about Contreras who is a headcase, I think Vazquez would be a perfect fit for the Mets.

No thanks, we would rather keep our home grown talent and see how they develop rather then trading them off, we arent the Yankees. Also Javier cant handle NY.

Gotta get a knock in, don't you? What big time talent have the Yankees traded away over the last few years? They have developed more homegrown talent over the last few years than the Mets.

How do you know Vazquez can't handle New York? He was injured in the 2nd half of 2004.

WTf? Homer simpson?

Ever heard of David Wright? Jose Reyes?

Ever heard of Chien Ming Wang? Ever heard of Robinson Cano? Ever heard of Melky Cabrera?

To add on to that, ever heard of Andy Pettitte? Ever heard of Derek Jeter? Ever heard of Mariano Rivera? Ever heard of Jorge Posada?

You just said over the last few years, then you want to go on and add those 4 guys who are senior citizens compared to the Mets young talent. Mo is the greatest closer of all time, Jeter is possibly a HoF and the other 2 guys have had good careers.

Wang? Ok, he's a good pitcher, still not more valuable then Wright or Reyes. Cano can't draw a walk if his life depended on it, not worth more then Wright or Reyes. Milky? What? I'd take Gomez over Milledge any day of the week.

Again, it's not worth it to give away young talent like a Humber. He is 24 but he his innings pitched that he has logged and experience is the equivalent to a 22 year old pitcher since he had TJ surgery.

You want to include Gomez, how about Hughes? He's more valuable than Milledge and Gomez combined.

This is stupid, so let's get back on topic. Vazquez has been extremely unlucky the last few years. He's a good option for an NL team.

I could never see Minaya dealing with the White Sox, Williams is a horrible GM. He tries to rap in every deal, and well I dont have the patience for Vazquez. He is not the pitcher he used to be, he really fell off. Id rather let Humber, Sele, Pelfey, Williams get starts before I trade a prospect to the Sox.

Can Hughes pitch a couple of more games before you make that comparison please.

Hughes is f'ing awesome. I love his stuff but he's not Cy Young calibur yet like how Yankee fans think he is some god already.

good reasoning, i dont think he ever got a fair shake as a yankee, but i dont know if
a) id want him for humber +
b) does he want to come back to ny?
