Regarding lineups:

Sure they're going to "figure it out in training camp"... But I think the plan is to always have at least one of Biyombo and Ibaka on the floor at all times for defensive game plan continuity. NBA teams are geared towards taking advantage of different lineups and specific player weaknesses. Teams will tend to drive more when the other team's best interior defender sits.

So I think Orlando is going to dictate play defensively by always having at least one rim protector on the floor at all times. If we can control the paint throughout our player rotations we will have a big advantage.

I feel this is a part of the rationale for the premium paid for Biyombo. It's not just what he can do as a player, but how his addition contributes to a 48-minute defensive game plan featuring rim protection.

We have a $70 million back up center. But if his presence solidifies our defensive approach and identity in a rotation with Vucevic and Ibaka where we always have a rim presence, it might just end up being a good deal.

I propose that the name of this thread be changed to "the interminable wait" because of the way this month has dragged just to get into August...

I really think we will trade Vucevic at the deadline if Gordon/Fournier/Ibaka show they can score. Our best line up will be Payton/Fournier/Hezonja/Gordon/Ibaka and Biz will come off the bench

I think your lineup hinges more on Gordon's and Mario's development. If they turn into all-star talents, we have something special. If they don't, we're a treadmill playoff team (and not even a good one).

What are our options with Ibaka? It seems like we've just allowed for the possibility that he might not stay. I say keep everybody through this season and let the chips fall next summer.

There are no options. If he's not on the roster next year, the trade was a massive failure.

Not really. Sabonis is a decent guy but he doesn't seem like a future all-star and Victor definitely isn't worth the max extension he seeks

I don't understand why people around here are in the mindset that Victor will demand a max and Ibaka won't.

No doubt Ibaka will want to get paid. I'd much rather pay a rim protecting, floor stretching, defensive first team unicorn than a SG who can't shoot. Rob agrees.

sorry, but I agree with Nyce. If Ibaka isnt here year, trade was a disaster. you easily trade Dipo for someone else, you use the #11 pick on someone to help the team. If Ibaka leaves, then you gave up Dipo +11 for nothing. not sure why they didnt think to go after him next offseason if they were going after Biyombo too. have to wait to see how this season goes

There's this brand new thing called the hotseat. You might have heard of that. Mr. henny is on the hotseat or his nuts are almost on the band saw(either expression works). U have to make moves to put your team in a better position to win. If the team improve the team keeps him. If the team doesn't henny is gone and the new gm will make the choice.

I can say with almost with certainty we keep ibaka unless gordon completely flops at sf.

Who's going to trade for a sg who doesn't do much offensively in terms of spacing? Sure he's a good defender but he's not like he's going to get you a good pf like ibaka.

As for the pick it certainly was more of a bpa pick since our franchise has very little direction based on the moves this off-season.

But that's that thing. If we're judging based on recent history, we are counting on a declining asset. He hasn't made an all defensive team since Roy Hilbert was relevant and he isn't that great of a shooter. If he plays as bad as he played last year he will still demand the max. Is everyone comfortable with henny paying just to save face?

Rather sign a star for max than ibaka.

I get what you're saying.... but Vuc is on a great deal right now.... and then that kinda puts us into the small ball category along with what everyone else is jumping onto the bandwagon with. I guess i'm just becoming more enamored with the versatility of the line up that we now have. (still not sure bout post offense if we lose vuc.. have to see if ibaka fills that role) If Gordon fits in well at sf.... i'm sure we will keep him there with the option of using him in a small ball lineup when necessary. Mario will get him minutes if he improves... between the sg and sf position with meeks and green playing minimal minutes even with their fatter contracts. But yeah... it is a possibility.... we'll see how it all plays out
