Rio 2016 Olympic Basketball

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Thu Aug 4, 2016 3:52 pm

I think that it would be great to have a thread to talk about the tournament.

We have just one player representing the Phoenix Suns, Leandrinho Barbosa. Hopefully he plays great and he arrives in shape for training camp.

Brazil is gonna be a fun team to watch and they have a competitive roster with some other NBA players like Neto, Huertas, Felicio and Nene Hilario.
Spain has a very good team with tons of talent and Lithuania has an interesting team to watch too.

Really excited about watching good basketball again.... October is too far away and I can't wait anymore. :D

There is a nice detailed list of each roster in this spreadsheet on the 8th tab.

Australia won easily today against France. I really like their team.

Bogut is in shape and Dellavedova/Patty Mills is a pretty good backcourt.

That's a bit surprising though considering France's team started Parker, Batum, Diaw and Gobert. Especially that they got beat by more than 20.

That's what they get for dogging out Fournier.

Apparently Batum looked completely half assed.

Why did they dog out Fournier? I see Bogdanovich scored 19 in their win.

He wanted to play, they were like "ye nah we're cool we'll just play Nando De Colo instead".

He didn't play in the qualifiers (like Diaw and Gobert) but it was expected he'd be able to come in for the Olympics.

France looked horrible yesterday. I expected them to be one of the better teams in this Olympics, maybe it was just a horribly off night for them though. Good to see my Aussies play well though.

Barbosa played a great game today but his team lost against Lithuania. 21 points in 29 minutes.

I like what Leandrinho is becoming as a team leader with Brazil.
He never seemed comfortable in this situation and now he almost carried us to a VERY long shot victory by himself.

He'll be a huge leader for our young guards.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Leandro Barbosa is a symbol of hope in the Olympic host country. He is proof that you can escape the hard life, outrun poverty, make it all the way to the NBA.

But fame hasn’t always been kind to the Brazilian Blur.

That’s probably why he looked exhausted after Brazil’s debut on Sunday, which resulted in an 82-76 loss to Lithuania. It wasn’t that his team felt hometown pressure, falling behind by 29 points before staging a furious rally.

It was because he once again felt the warm embrace of the home crowd, treated like the role model he is to countless Brazilian children.

“It means a lot,” Barbosa said. “The way the fans were today … I’ll never forget that.”

Anyone know where you can watch replays of swimming events? I wanted to see a race I missed tonight but had to work really late.

Think you can stream some here:

Also some cable setups may allow it too (I know I can watch basketball replays on Comcast), and they re-show stuff late night.

Great game between Argentina and Croatia yesterday. Scola/Ginobili/Nocioni are fun to watch together fight against father time.

Saric is a good player, he knows how to play but he is not explosive.

I just saw the 4th qtr, but they were feisty. Delladova seems a lot better than most people give him credit for. He will help Milwaukee this year. Next olympics most of these guys may be too old but they will probably have Ben Simmons, Dante Exum and Thon Maker.

This is easily the best Aussie team we've ever fielded and with the groupings, we have a chance at a medal in this Olympics. Hopefully we get through to the Finals to meet US again.

Delly definitely looks better than I gave him credit for, plus he and Patty Mills are both young enough and with the other young guys you've mentioned hopefully joining the team, the Aussie 2020 Olympic basketball team should be strong.

Just gotta hope Thon is somewhere near he's actual age..Bogut and Delly combo was sweet. Pretty disappointing in Cousins. If anyone thinks he is gonna be our saviour just watch this game. He's contribution was kevin love-esq.

Return to Phoenix Suns
