2016 Olympics Thread

Post#1 » by bballnmike » Mon Aug 8, 2016 8:06 pm

Wasn't sure where to post this so figured I'd start a thread..

Australia played Serbia in the Olympics today, with Aaron Baynes and Boban both starting for their respective countries.. nevermind me. Australia won 95 - 80, Baynes had 10p 7r 1a in 23 minutes

Also yesterday, Michael Gbinije started for Nigeria. Nigeria got crushed and it sounds like MG played just ok: 2-of-7 overall, 0-for-4 from the 3-point line, had four rebounds, three assists and six points, but he did have this monster dunk

This was his first start in international play, hopefully he will continue to gain valuable experience at the Olympics before heading into his rookie season.

Feel free to discuss any other Olympic sports in here as well.

I didn't get to watch any of the game, so not sure how they looked and if they matched up against each other much. Glad to see them both getting big minutes.

Being an Aussie I stayed up to watch some of this (commenced 1:30 where I live) and Boban's not on the team, that's Bogdan Bogdanovic not Boban Marjanavic.

IMO this is the best team we've ever had talent wise and we're still missing Simmons, Exum and even now I'd want to include Maker (at least for an athletic defensive perspective).

I'm really optimistic we can place our first ever medal in men's basketball. Even a bronze would be great for us. I just hope we put up some level of fight and don't get star struck with USA.

Wait ok so this is pretty confusing, and it appears I wasn't the only one to get this mixed up. :-?

Bogdan Bogdanovic plays for Serbia.
Bojan Bogdanovic plays for Croatia.
Boban Marjanovic is from Serbia but not on the Olympic team.

PistonsPowered is also confused  http://pistonpowered.com/2016/08/09/detroit-pistons-are-playing-well-in-olympics-so-far/

Off topic but I hate how the second most popular sport in the world (cricket) is not in the olympics

Weird. Apparently it was way back in 1900. Do you think the length of a match is a factor?

Baseball and softball were out for a couple olympics and are set to return in 2020.

Incredible performance by the Aussies. They are a national team with Bad Boys genes.
