There really is no comparison between the offensive efficiency of Vucevic and Nowitzki. Both can sustain their efficiency in high volume roles, but Dirk's efficiency is dramatically better than Vucevic's. Further, for as much criticism as Dirk has received, he is vastly superior to Vucevic in defending outside of the paint. This has permitted Dallas to use defense-only bigs next to him routinely. I am baffled as to how someone that looks so graceful in his footwork on the offensive end (Vucevic) can look so ungainly on defense.

Well, Skiles and former coaches stuck him deep in the post on offense, so we don't know how he can defend outside the paint.

I do recall that one game where Vooch blocked Durant one on one for the win on the perimeter, thus I think people just assume he can't defend outside the paint.

It's possible, but he has always looked awkward with his footwork on defense to me. If it is possible that he can cover a 3-and-D big in the corner, that would certainly allow Vogel some more options with our frontcourt.

I recall a great Stan Van Gundy quote where he said that when the team needed a PF, he was going to turn to Hedo and keep Shard at the 3 but Hedo got injured so he had to use Shard at the 4 and the rest in history. You never know what a player can do in a certain position until he is pressed into playing meaningful minutes there.

People can just speculate and pigeon hole players all the want regardless until we can see what they can do.

I think what people constantly forget about is TEAM DEFENSE. We put too much emphasis on the defensive abilities of individual players and keep failing to mention how a good TEAM DEFENSIVE SCHEME would improve our defense, much like it did for the first half of last season.
