The rumors seem to be generated by the Noel camp, not Philly or Boston. A case of a player and his agent trying to force a trade. That makes some sense since he will be going into his first restricted free agency at a time when he will be hard pressed to get the kind of minutes needed to impress other teams. Dropping allusions to Philly on social media was a shot to get the 6ers attention, and the Boston love makes sense because he could snag a role on a decent playoff team and have a better chance to market himself for his restricted free agency year.

Smitty has the resources to make me believe that neither Boston or Philly are stirring the pot. Stevens places such a premium on spacing and the three point shot, it's just hard or me to see how Noel is a target.

Marcus Smart is not worth as much as Oladipo.

stats (Per 36 minutes)- points/boards/assists
Rozier- 8.3/7.3/4.3 22% from 3
Smart- 12.1/5.5/4 25% from 3
Oladipo- 17.4/5.2/4.3 35% from 3
Noel- 13.7/9.9/2.2 along with 2.2 stls and 1.8 blks
Okafor- 21/8.4/1.5 with 1.4 blocks

So I don't think your player evaluations are too good. Noel put up good numbers with Ish Smith being his best point guard. Marcus Smart and Rozier had a good supporting cast and still didn't distribute or score well as they both scored less than the guy with no offensive game. Oladipo is a SG that had just as many assists as two pgs. He also scored 17.5 per game which is 5 more than smart would've.

Aactually that is probably the "Can Marcus Smart Learn to Shoot" thread. That just sounds sad.

Why are you trolling so hard dude? This is obnoxious.

For the record, the only reason I wouldn't trade Brown for Noel is because of Noel's contract (meaning, we can just sign him in a year).

Probably a secondary account. He's going in for the ban. I mean comparing Jaylen to Jeremi Grant? Jaylen Brown has one of the fastest first steps off the dribble for a 3. Jeremi Grant may have a decent vertical. But Jaylen Brown is a much more complete athlete and is going to live at the free throw line in the pros. I believe that.

You're only matching that if management definitely prefers him over your glut of bigs. They can't max all of the bigs on that team.

It's pretty clear that Noel wants to play for his hometown team, in the worst way. Kid would be super motivated if he came here.

He's already motivated. Locked himself in a gym all summer to work on his shot last year. And I don't think we get to the off season with a 3 bigs.

The best part of this is we can do nothing and we will still have a top 3 defense this year. If Philly does nothing Jerryd Bayless is their best guard.

Brett Brown has already said Ben Simmons will be playing point guard.

Sure but he will be covering a 3. You still need a short guy to cover the other teams PG. so he's a point forward not a point guard. If you force him to cover point guards he will get destroyed off the dribble regularly.

If Noel was locked into a reasonable long term deal, giving up Brown would be an option. Only having 1 year left on his deal plummets his value. Yes, the 76ers or whoever trades for him can match any deal. But, you are talking about trading for the right to give him a 100 million dollar deal. :-?

Value is about the contract situation (money/years) as much as the talent.

What is worse is that he can't comprehend what Noel signaling he is leaving means. It means every year now Philly will draft a top 5 pick and a top 5 pick from 3-4 years ago will leave in free agency because they don't want to stay with a historically awful losing franchise. Next year Noel. Then Embiid. Then Okafor. Then Simmons. Maybe at least they will get 3 good years out of Simmons unlike that last 3 wasted picks.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

An All star midget who averaged 22 and 6 last year.... and 26 pts vs Philly.

But I'm not sure why you're here trying to put down the Celtics. Both Boston and Philly are just 2 teams trying to build. Got to respect teams doing what they need to do to build man. I like what Philly has in Simmons. How he develops should be fun to watch. Incredible feel for the game. The kid needs a jumper though, hopefully he develops it. Embiid, Saric, Okafor, Noel... The talent is there on paper, just an oddly constructed roster. I trust Colangelo can somewhat fix that. I do think your team is headed for another top 3 pick next summer... which really isn't a bad thing in the grand scheme of things.

But Boston has Jaylen Brown as well. He should also be a good one. I've been high on him since last year. He's going to surprise a lot of people and prove why he was drafted "higher than the mocks". We also managed to win games while rebuilding. That deserves props. Heck, we got the number 3 pick and can potentially win 50 games this season. So yes, we can have our best player be 30 years old WHILE developing a talent like Jaylen AND potentially having another lotto pick next summer.

Return to Boston Celtics
