was no defensive communication or rotation all game. No effort by guys off ball behind the play either. All they had to do was get one of the Cs to come out, and none of the other guys was doing any work under the hoop.

Sure they played hard and smart. But team usa beating themselves by forcing shots and playing undisciplined. Coach K needs to hammer home the message before next game.

Heres my real question.

How the hell arnt half these Serbian or Australian guys in the NBA. Seriously. A bunch of randoms from small countries can take a US all-star team to the wire back to back games?

If Im the Cavs, I terminate the contracts of the entire bench and sign the entire Serbian starting to 5 mill a year contracts and be the entire second unit after Kyrie/Bron/JR/Love/Tristan. If they can play like THAT against our all start, they would manhandle the Orlando Magic bench.

Ya agree. The ONLY thing that I think is a legit excuse is because of injuries and Zeka virus. Nobody saw a Zeka virus coming. Gotta protect their health.

They are 4th in the group anyway (of course I expect a win against China). Even if they won France would be 3rd because they won against Serbia.

FIBA ball is very different than NBA.

Serbian bench would get annihilated by the Orlando Magic bench or any other bench for that matter.

Different roster. Only cuz you had CP3 Iggy Lebron facilitating.

This team is very much like the old team USA rosters. A ton of 1 on 1 play. Point guards looking to score. No real role players. Bigs that are not good at defending PNR. I don't blame the players. This team was built with the idea of get the stars in and we are seeing the results again. This roster is in need of some players that just want to pass the ball. A big man that is great at PNR defense and rebounding. Why is Jordan and Cousins getting so much time.

In terms of looking toward the NBA season. Golden State should be very worried if they plan on playing Green and Durant a lot at the 4 and 5. Offensively they be fine but Durant can play some PF next to a big guy like Stephen Adams. With Green not sure what to expect defensively.

Serbia is a few bad possessions from actually leading in this game.

Yup. This is what I was suggesting during the Australia game. These countries/teams play with cohesiveness. The US, not so much. And against some teams they can get away with iso ball and just playing the passing lanes to score on a fast break.

Some of these better teams, that ain't gonna cut it. To those thinking this particular US team is unbeatable.... if the Aussie game wasn't enough proof, maybe this is.

Yup. If I am the opposing coach, I would go all day with this screen continuity offense that we saw from the Aussies and Serbians. The US just can't handle so many defensive switches in one possession, and eventually you get an easy bucket down low or an open 3. To be fair, they looked very lazy out there on D.

FIBA game is much more reliant on skill than the NBA game, especially todays NBA game. In a 1 game setting of course they can pull of a miracle but over the stretch of an 82 game season and playoffs plus the way the game is officiated in the NBA(no travels, carries, illegal defense, star treatment) and the iso heavy nature they wouldn't survive.

I remember Vlade Divac (Kings GM, Serbian Olympic Committee president) saying he feels sorry for Serbian centers when they meet Cousins.

Well Vlade, Serbian centers tore him a new one. Jokic and Raduljica killed DeMarcus, RIP.

Along with what others stated, many players don't have any interest in transitioning to the NBA, not everyone wants to play in the National Basketball Association.

To be honest, no team if not forced should choose Cousins or Green, two extremely ill behaved primadonnas who probably stink up the locker room with their bad mentality. I also doubt players like Butler, who is a ball dominant shooting guard, exactly what you don't want in FIBA. Lowry is also very overrated when he can't carry dribble. Deandre should not have been there either.

Here's who I would have added instead:

Hayward
Parsons
Paul Millsap
Mike Conley (Rajon Rondo)

4 smart players who are unselfish and can play fast passing oriented basketball.

Thats my point, its not them 2 thats the problem because they've destroyed international competition together and apart its the structure around them. Having 2-3 skilled passers on this team who focused solely on finding the shooters and scorers would be lovely.

Keep in mind also that Boban Marjanović AND Nemanja Bjelica both sat out this year; the U.S. would have lost today had they played.

Tonight everyone learned what the advanced stats had been telling us all of last year.

Nikola Jokic is dope.

The ISO heavy nature is one of the main concerns. Look at Delly and the difference of him playing within a structured offense vs him in Clevelend.

The second concern is athleticism. The only player who is athletically (in terms of speed, quickness and jumping) on the NBA level is actually Nedovic. :)

I am not saying other guys are unathletic and Raduljica, Jokic, Bogdanovic, Teodosic (except on defense) would certainly be able to hold their own.

Keep in mind that Serbia is also playing without Bjelica and that is a big hendicap for them since Jokic is forced to play PF primarily with no good subsitutions on center position. (and well Marjanovic is also missing but that is another story since he never had a chance to have a role on the NT). Bjelica is a BIG BIG part of Serbian NT with his handles, shooting and passing.
