I'm gassed up. Been drinking black husky since 5pm. But the defense looked good. Hundley moved the ball. Wish he didn't get hurt. Overall like the depth.

Were Mortell's punts as good as the stats? Or did he get good bounces.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I barely watched the game but I had a part on where Harlan said he was really good.

He got a nice bounce on one that I saw. Can't speak for the others.

Completely spaced thinking it was a Friday game. Oh well. It appears our defense played well. I really really hope Mathsay is no longer our punter.

I saw 2 of his punts. One was good and had a nice bounce.

The second they were backed up and he had a nice booming punt. They returner muffed it a little and Martinez had a nice open field tackle.

I like what I saw from Martinez tonight.

A lot positive from this one...

Outside of Spriggs having to deal with Mack, and essentially allowing our backup QB to get rolled up on (though it was a dirty late low hit - the likes of which we were called for last week), we handled their starting defense (which played for a ridiculous 2 full quarters) with our 1.5th string and our 2nd string held their own until Hundley came out. He looked like the same guy. I definitely like having confidence in my backup QB. Hopefully the ankle injury is not serious. I don't think that we have a good enough guy to keep another guy on the roster at QB.

Cook looked good. He even caked someone on a run play. Ripkowski looked good. He caught the ball decently out of the backfield. He also washed Ben Heeney out of the hole on long runs by Lacy and Starks. I like him a lot. Mostly because he actually does the things I value at fullback... like being able to lead block. Watching nothing but Callahan and Williams makes me sad because I want to see flashes from wide receivers 6 through 9. Allison had a solid slant, but really not much is getting done deep in the defensive backfield. Callahan was not calm in the pocket, and was not making throws down the field. There were a couple of plays in there where Burks just absolutely whiffed on his pass block pickup. We were trying to chip Mack, and he would just airball it. I like how he runs, but if he pass blocks like that regularly there is no way he makes the team. I definitely like how he runs more than Crockett. Crockett got some solid lead blocking on screens, and wasn't able to get the speed going that would propel him into the secondary. I hate watching guys get run down from behind on screens -- especially when the blocking is good. His touchdown was a good piece of power running, and some great blocking from Ty Montgomery to flatten the safety.

Defensively our secondary looked great. Randle made a play on Amari Cooper that made Cooper look like a low awareness player. Rollins continues to look like a player too. Martinez plays like how I wish AJ Hawk would have played. Brice also pops off the screen. He breaks on plays like Nick Collins. If he could develop the ball skills, he could be something special. The 1.5 string and 2nd string, and some of the 3rd string came out and played the Raiders starting offense into doing nothing. The fact that maybe the highest paid O-line in the league couldn't move the ball on our backups was telling for both teams. I don't even think they get a field goal if Datone Jones doesn't pick up a stupid personal foul.

On special teams, I think that Mortell played himself into consideration tonight. He got a good bounce on one of his kicks, but it wasn't a bad kick going into the bounce. Masthay definitely has him in hangtime, but Mortell played well.

Really the only gaffe tonight was on LaDarius Gunter. He let a guy directly at our punter.

Our roster looks incredibly deep. There are going to be some difficult cuts in the defensive backfield.

Good recap.

Besides RIP's drop, he had a very good day. He had 1 or 2 beautiful lead blocks that sprung the RB's free. That made me very happy.

I thought Crockett was supposed to be fast, but he seemed average speed but had some power. I'm not impressed, he seems adequate as a 3rd back, and good enough to make the team, but I would like to see more, I had higher hopes for him last summer. Starks still has some ability to squirt free and make a play. Lacy is looking like the bulldozer he was prior to 2015.

I guess the good thing about giving the trio of CB rookies so many reps last year is paying off, Randle, Rollins, and Gunter looked solid in the secondary and Martinez always seemed to be in the action like an ILB should be. The 3 corners looked fairly seasoned out there, and Brice has some nice POP to his game. I wonder if he overtakes Banjo. I didn't see any players roaming free and our defense scratching it's head on why that guy is wide open, so that was a good sign.

I wasn't able to watch the Dline much, I was watching in the office, so I was stealth watching. I didn't see Kenny Peterson do anything special, but I did notice, OMG Dean Lowry is a big mFer. Not sure if he did much, but man he's big.

I missed the browns game, so this was my first time seeing the Packers in action and it felt pretty good to see some Packers football after a long break.

Last year I had a mancrush on Randle and I think it it is budding towards Martinez. I want to meat his mom and thank her for raising such a fine specimen.

Oh man, I had to turn off my screen during the 4th quarter so I missed Gunter's screw up and the blocked punt. I like Gunter so I hope he's able to clean that up.

Defense looks great. Capers seems to have the speed and personnel that compliments his defensive schemes perfectly. We're stacked in the secondary and at LB this year. D-line is still my only worry but that's more to do with depth than starting talent as we're going to be relying on a lot of young, inexperienced guys (Pennel, Clark, Lowry).

Offense looks poised for a bounce back year. Hundley looked sharped and marched us down the field for both drives against most of Oakland's defensive starters before he re-aggravated the ankle. Hopefully it doesn't linger. Adams has looked really good catching the ball in traffic.

The only downside on defense was the lack of a pass rush. It can easily be explained by our lack of Matthews and Peppers combined with the fact that they left their starting offense in all the way until we were playing guys that won't even be in consideration to make our roster.

Saw a lot of positives. The DB's played lights out, Blake Martinez great game, Lacy running with authority, the oline opening up space for the running backs, and Masthay might be out of a job.

I liked the drafting of Spriggs and am still happy we got him, but also just as happy we can stash him for a year (barring injury) because he is not ready. Completely overpowered last week, actually lifted up in the air a couple of times.....last night he was a turnstile. I realize it was against Mack, but if that is regular season we are crucifying him for getting Rodgers hurt.

Like what I've seen from Martinez. He's pretty quick. If he can provide good coverage, the middle of our D will be nice with him and the secondary we have in place.

I think he was less of a turnstile than people are saying. On the sack, Burks was supposed to chip and just completely missed Mack. Spriggs played the block like he was assuming the back would at least contact the player. The leverage wasn't there after the assumption. I chalk that one up to Burks blowing the block. The late hit was just that. The ball was away and he came in late and low. He definitely needs the strength to anchor against power guys, but his foot positioning has been legitimately fantastic. It was his highest selling point as a draft pick.

Got to go last minute to the game yesterday, my first since about 2004 or 2005 when I was a kid. Had a really fun time, but missed a quarter and a half due to us getting there late.

There seems to be a lot of talent this year all around. I'm really hoping Masthay doesn't make the team, he just is so meh to me at this point and Mortel has out punted him in both games.

Hundley is gonna be damn good if he can stay healthy. That back shoulder to Adams was a big boy throw. Sucks that we probably end up trading some team their franchise QB for a lot less than he's worth.
Do it for Chuck
