2016-17 Spanish La Liga Discussion Thread

Barca won the league last year, Real won the CL over Atletico, best league in the world etc. Bunch of stuff happened.

To be honest I just wanted a thread to discuss Messi being sentenced to 21 months in jail:

Of course, he won't actually be going to jail. But still, bit of a crap summer so far for Messi.

It's pretty sad that everyone in the world is not surprised that he won't serve his time. Lucky break is an understatement.

Hopefully Madrid can win the league. I'm sick if Barcelona winning it

Sad to say, Atletico's best chances for both the La Liga title and the CL title were last season. Barca will strengthen and rejuvenate their backline, Real will fine-tune and delineate roles in their mid-field. Obviously, the Rojiblancos have the most room to improve in the attacking 3rd. It would be nice to bring back Costa or lure Tevez out of retirement, but I think we need to make a bigger splash. Higuain and Griezmann together would be a bold statement.

Depends on whether or not Simeone stays. As long as he's there you can never rule them out, under him they play with real courage. Being competitive with the corpse of Torres up top is quite something, proves the value of a strong defensive spine... well, and having the likes of Griezmann.

I can only see Real getting better. They were actually quite poor for a sizable chunk of the season and were still within touching distance of the title after Barca's mid-season collapse. I think we will be in for another exciting season.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Real do under Zidane for a full season, it will be interesting to see if he uses the same tactics he used last season or if he changes some things.

Sevilla vs. Espanyol has been absolutely ridiculous. 5-3 to Sevilla with 20 minutes to play.
