Prospect rankings since 2010

Post#1 » by PhillySixers22 » Sun Aug 21, 2016 7:58 pm

So I've been discussing/debating where Ben Simmons would rank as a prospect since 2010, with me viewing him as a top 5 prospect and my friend saying he wouldn't be top ten and my opinion is clouded by being a Sixers fan. Now keep in mind this is strictly as prospects and not taking NBA success into account. So for example Draymond Green, despite being a high level NBA player wouldn't qualify. So whoever would like to participate please post a list of your top 20-30 prospects if all players from the 2010 draft on were all eligible for the same draft. Any discussion as to why your rankings are the way they are is welcome and encouraged. I know we won't all remember exactly how we viewed players coming out but lets do our best leaving out hindsight. Now for my rankings:

1. John Wall
2. Joel Embiid (not considering injury concerns)
3. Anthony Davis
4. Karl Anthony-Towns

Derrick Favors and MKG in the top 12?! WTF??

they were both considered extremely weak top picks, in weak drafts.

I think Davis would be #1. Everyone knew he would be a star, only guy here where it was completely inevitable. Wall is close behind and then guys like Cousins, Wiggins, Simmons. Bougie was thought by most to be the best player in his draft but fell because most felt his personality was too volatile.

You overestimated D'Angelo Russell, IMO. In terms of point guard, Kyrie Irving was still better than D'Angelo in his rookie year. I mean... Kyrie was more efficient than him.

John Wall was ranked #1 for the entire season pre and post college season. I believe he was viewed similar tier as Derrick Rose as pg prospect. Debate between him and Evan Turner close to draft.

Kyrie Irving was ranked #1 for most of the season despite playing only 11 games. Harrison barnes was viewed #1 preseason. Small segment viewed Derrick Williams as better prospect.

Anthony Davis was ranked #1 for entire college season. Clearcut #1 in his draft. He wasn't viewed as offensive juggernaut coming out. Comparisons from KG to a much better version of marcus camby. Sidenote out of highschool I believe Drummond was #1 in the 2011 class for lil bit before Davis made huge leap his senior season.

Nerlens Noel was ranked #1 for majority of the season. Knee Injury scared teams off from selecting him #1. similar to Davis not viewed as offensvie star but make his impact as the best shotblocker defensive anchor type.

Andrew Wiggins was ranked #1 for majority of the season. Midway to close to end of season Joel Embiid emerged as higher ceiling prosepct and new #1 before the injury lowered his draft stock. Viewed as tracy mcgrady level prospect. Him and Jabari parker were battling for #1 during season.

Karl Towns was ranked #1 lil before midway thru the season. him and Jahlil okafor was debate for #1 during season.became Clearcut #1 closer to draft. Viewed as Tim Duncan level prospect.

Ben Simmons was ranked #1 lil into beginning of the college season and held the spot till draft night..I believe Skal labissiere was ranked #1 pre season. Viewed as poor man's LeBron James.

1. Anthony Davis
2. Karl Anthony Towns
3. Ben Simmons
4. John Wall
5. Andrew Wiggins
6. Kyrie Irving
7. Nerlens Noel

Draymond Green? I don't remember him having any hype at all. He was just a 2nd Round diamond that panned out. You could make a case for Whiteside though. He ended up in the 2nd Round but he did have some serious hype.

It's really questionable who the most hyped player was so far. It's between Davis, Wall, Wiggins and Simmons. I don't think Towns is in the mix, I remember him being ranked somewhere between 3 and 8 all year long with Okafor and Mudiay being considered the top picks of that draft.

Damian Lillard as a prospect, while a bit under the radar because of his small school, should still be above about 15 players on this list.
