I was shocked when I pulled up and the parking lot was essentially full. Awesome turnout.
Couldn't stop saying how nice of change in pace with the new leadership. Great showing!

UCF will honor George O'Leary with a statue, a source with knowledge of the project told the Orlando Sentinel.

The statue is expected to be presented sometime in 2017 and will likely sit near Bright House Networks Stadium. O'Leary was one of the key figures who helped bring UCF an on-campus stadium, which opened in 2007.

A group of private donors organized the effort to add a statue of O'Leary, who was the eighth coach in UCF football history, to campus. The move was approved by the UCF Athletic Association.

I'm on the fence whether I think GOL should receive a statue. I think maybe something else would be better, but I understand why this would be pushed for. GOL certainly was instrumental in pushing the program forward, but I have to wonder how much of that was O'Leary and how much of it was Hitt and other factors too.

I don't know about the statue. You build a statue because Bobby Bowden, Bear Bryant, Tom Osborne, Knute Rockne, Nick Saban was your coach.

I agree with the sentiments already posted, but if you are a supporter of UCF athletics, you have to appreciate the efforts they are putting in to move them forward.

We've come so far even in the past decade, it's really quite amazing. I remember going to a basketball game in the old arena when I was attending UCF and that wasn't much better than my high school gym (granted my high school was a bit newer), but then I went to a game at CFE Arena a few years ago and it was amazingly better.

You don't make statues for coaches who started and ended their career with winless seasons. Honor him in some way but a statue is laughable. Give that money to people who really need it.

It's not the athletics department behind the statute. It's the donors who funded $$$ that are asking to pay for a statute. How about a bronze plaque inside the stadium instead would be my question?
