Good write up. The only thing I can say about the Biyombo scouting report is...

Image

While he's efficient around the rim, and does stay in his lane, he often times kills possessions. His ability to catch passes has improved however he still has bad hands, and its nuts that stepping 1 foot out cuts his FG% in almost half. I really think people are blinded by blocks and don't get how bad he is on offense. One part I'd like to touch on is where you said
Ball handling and passing is something you will rarely see from Biyombo.
because I think that ties directly into pairing him with Ibaka. Serge isn't much of a passer either, so not only does Biyombo not fit with AG and Payton, he's also a terrible pairing with Ibaka outside of short stretches where we need to get stops. I think we see them paired up towards the closing seconds of games along with AG in order to keep opposing teams outside of the paint.

Biyombo might be a fan-favourite in the Bo-Outlaw type way. Indeed, Biyombo looks to have exactly Outlaw's game, but plays it with a more dominant physical presence.

Heart-n-hustle: But with actual physical tools!

What? How is Biyombo a terrible pairing with Ibaka? What's wrong offensively with a garbage man C paired with a PF with legitimate range?

Because both are dreadful at ball movement.

I think Biyombo will work really well with Payton though. I think people really underestimate the importance of players understanding what they are capable of. Biyombo doesn't offer much variety offensively, but he is a very efficient offensive player. Most players could benefit from better shot selection. Rodman didn't try to reward himself on offensive rebounds by forcing up shots near the rim. If he didn't have something easy, he hit an outlet and let the offense reset.

Ball movement from the PF and C positions is not that important. It's not like we are going to be putting those two in the post too much to worry about how well they pass out of it. The Thunder offense was just fine with Ibaka and Adams starting for them and its not like Adams is Magic Johnson compared to Biyombo.

No they don't. That is called coaching. We have a great coach now.

It's pretty clear. The coaching staff reinforces understanding of what players are good at, and what they need to work on. SVG did it all the time.

You forgot this part:

Because it doesn't matter if Ibaka has range or not, Biyombo wont pass the ball. Like I said though, I could see them together towards the end of quarters or to close out games in order to get stops, because lets face it a frontline of Ibaka/Biyombo/AG is STOUT defensively. I mean I believe we can keep anybody out of the paint with that group, unfortunately I think they're too horrible offensively to play them together over a long period of time.

Nothing, if you have a superstar or a couple all stars to carry the scoring load...

As long as Biyombo is diligent at setting screens off the ball, he doesn't need to pass the ball or shoot to create space, he can be helping Fournier and Gordon get open on a lot of plays.

I'm also starting to think that if Vuc's 3pt shot has come a long way, we really might start seeing some Vuc/Biyombo pairings. We could essentially have a 3 headed beast between Vuc/Biyombo/Ibaka with two of them on the court nearly at all times.

I want to chime on the bolded part:

Last time I was around anyone from the team a few weeks back, I asked about Vuc having 3 point range. And the answer I got was pretty vague (I'm paraphrasing, since it was off the record and I wasn't recording the convo):

"Maybe. He could. He doesn't really have that range right now. And we haven't asked him. But he probably could. Hasn't been a focus. He has to improve on what he can already do before starting to add new stuff to his plate. And this summer/fall is going to be all about improving his defense."

I took that to mean we shouldn't expect to see him stepping out behind the arc much at all. Not that he couldn't add it, but they've asked him to focus elsewhere for now.

And this is the biggest reason I am so excited for next season. For the first time in years we have a fantastic coach who knows what he is doing. I like the additions but our biggest acquisition has been the all star coaching staff we have assembled.

Interesting. Well I'm stoked he's working on defense. But given that he's said in a few interviews that he wants to do that (and hasn't been with the team this summer) I'm still holding out hope that he's worked on his 3pt shot.

^^^^Vuc did say in his recent interview on the Magic radio podcast that he's been working on hitting 3s.

Favors and Gobert form one of the league's best front courts and neither is a good passer. The jazz also didnt have superstar talent or a good PG and they still won 40 games despite the injuries. I think Biyombo and Ibaka will be so good defensively, it'll work.

He's working on his three point shooting though, atleast according to his last interview. Reality is if both Biyombo and Vucevic want to play 28 mpg, they have to share about 4 mpg on the court together. I think they can pull it off for short stretches.
