I get the feeling that i'm in a minority here but I really don't want to know about our Celtic player's personal lives and what they do off of the court.

And it's not that I'm naive about this sort of thing happening either. I just want to hold on to something that is wholesome about sports.

Every time I hear of another shady story about one of our stars it just adds to my building pessimism about today's society.

I don't know where to see data on like, how many pixels were lit up for and against Douglas and Lochte, but just from my finger to the wind it seemed like Lochte even got a harder time because of the fear he'd get an easier time for being a privileged white guy.

Yeah the Gabby getting hit harder than Lotche seemed like a real strawman. Minority of idiots looking far too deep into the so called incident. I dunno if it was or wasn't a factor but, generally speaking when people go overboard with racism and sexism it lessens the seriousness of real racism and sexism. Harder for people to take the real causes seriously. That's how feminism got the bad rap it has now. Olympics would be a lot more fun under Roger Goodell. Could have had a 6 month multimillion dollar investigation into Gabby's past for anthemgate to try to figure out if she's anti-American (which they ultimately determine while there's no proof of this, we also can't prove she isn't anti-American) and after fratboy get nailed too the United States gets hit with a loosely related repeat offender penalty and is banned from the Olympics until 2032.

That's pretty much what my point was, these racial non issues that are masqueraded as real issues devalue and draw attention away from the real problems and instances of racism that should be focused on more. Devalue in that with more and more instances of unrelated events being manufactured into racism, it will lead to people being increasingly dismissive of actual instances of racism, sort of like a boy who cried wolf type situation.

I'm not sure who started "All Lives Matter", it's so simple, yet an incredibly clever device for manipulation. The racist core of it is hidden under the surface, creating a message racists and nonracists alike can get behind. Racists because it dismisses BLM and puts a spotlight on the extremist minority of the movement, nonracists because they just think "yeah all lives do matter" without realizing it marginalizes the BLM movement. BLM versus ALM is a perfect example of the slippery slope and how things can snowball. Now you got even nonracists believing BLM is about black supremacy.
