Good question and not sure, but I would say a max contract should be at least 10x what it is now and the minimum salary should be at least $50K.

it should be higher, but salary in sports is based on revenue. if the NBADL dosn't make any money then player salaries aren't going to be high.

The value of the NBDL should be in providing well trained, well coached, and talented players that are readily available to NBA teams. The aggregate salaries of all NBDL players on a team should be worth much more than $200K, even if they generate no revenue at all.

It suits me, we've been getting nba hopefuls playing here in Australia as the money is better than the D league. James Ennis was the success story that set the trend

"If you build it, they will come."

It's a circular issue. The salaries are low because there's no revenue coming in. There's no revenue coming in because there aren't any prospects to drive ratings. There are no prospects because the salaries aren't enough to offset a college scholarship. And around we go.

Something's gotta give, I'm thinking D-League contracts will definitely be discussed during next year's CBA negotiations, I'm just not sure how much it'll change. The players are gonna want a bigger portion of the pie to offset losing some to the DL, but I'm not sure the owners will comply.

you could expand the draft to maybe 4 rounds and make it a requirement that players have to spend X number of games in the D-league before they are "called up"

also those 3rd and 4th round guys wouldn't count against the cap of the NBA team. i think you can also do "compensation" picks which would be awarded to teams that lose their key FA's, like we would get a couple comp picks for losing Al and Lin. where these picks are will be decided by how good those players who left are. kind of like the MLB.

I think teams should be able to use the NBDL like they would Euro teams - they can draft guys and put them on their NBDL team without tying up a roster spot, but that player wouldn't be eligible to play for the team until the following year. That way instead of "draft and stash" where you put guys in Europe where you have no control over their PT and coaching, you could plug them in to your NBDL team and control their development without occupying a roster spot. To make that attractive to prospects you'd have to pay them a lot more than what they get now though.

I actually like a suggestion I read where it said that NBA teams could draft players then let them go to College.

Let some of these College boys get paid, the teams are earning money

Technically we don't have Harrison yet, though based on Cliff's comments seems like it's a certainty.

Hornets said in summer league the wanted him to play on the wing instead of point guard. SG/SF, take your pick.

Because he can't play point... Or shoot... Or guard. And he's too small to play PF or C.

I'd be curious how much interest the d-league would get if they did start signing top high school prospects to 6 figure salaries. Maybe allow territories for teams to sign local kids. I would imagine if some chris paul level local prospect played for the swarm people would be interested.

Today is the D-League's expansion draft for the 3 newest teams, Greensboro Swarm, Long Island Nets and Windy City Bulls.

D-League Digest ‏@DLeagueDigest 50m50 minutes ago
Draft not made available to the public. League provides results via press release only.

After the draft results are release, we should take a poll of how many names people recognize.

Lots of familiar names there. Davis is a Raleigh kid we had in summer league a few years back; ditto with Gaddy, and he also signed a camp deal with us in '13. Hopson was traded here for Haywood and Dwight Powell, but was then traded for cash a day later.

Murry just signed with the Wolves, so you can put him down as a "did not report." Huestis likewise is on his rookie deal with the Thunder, and the fact that he was left unprotected probably means he won't be sent back down. But what if he were? Does OKC have to send him to Greensboro? Probably not, but that's a weird choice.

Turner is of course a State product, and Wilkins signed here last year after MKG went down.

Worth a bump.
