Ive thought about this before, but almost every team has a good PG or a PG prospect, I cant think of many scenarios where trading Payton and getting a PG back makes a lot of sense for the other team. This is definitely one of those cases where Payton has value to us but maybe not a lot to other teams

I actually think he would be a decent gamble for most teams right now, just because his value is fairly low for someone of his age and experience. There is talent there.

The league is definitely flooded with good point guards right now though, but you can say the same about centers. I haven't gone team-by-team and looked at depth charts, but Zach Lowe has repeatedly stated that nobody needs centers right now. Every time someone comes up with some hypothetical trade involving Vucevic, it seems like someone else points out how it would need to be a 3-team deal because said team doesn't really need a center.

In today's NBA there's not much of a market for Point guards or Centers. Every team seems to be okay at the center position or either trying to give someone away like Greg Monroe. A non-offensive Point Guard like Payton should be difficult to move in this market.

You're right about there being not a great market for centers out there (I've talked about this myself actually).. I just pointed out the lack of a market for PGs as well because Elfrid is not included in many trade talks. Both guys are probably more valuable to us than the rest of the league

I say we keep him around. Once his contract is over, then I would hope by then Stephen Zimmerman would be ready to be that bench big, and we could let someone else overpay for Vuc. But for as long as he's on this deal, he's a keeper.

First you can't really play up on your man because he may get by you for a layup, opening up the 3 pt line. Second if those good centers like Len or Zaza are dominating your center you have to sink in and help, leaving you in a bad defensive position.

I think we can only theorize about what rim protection can do for us because this team hasn't ever had it. Sure Dedmon gave us a little but he only weighed a couple hundred pounds and could be backed down by almost any center.

You didn't elaborate on the "different style". When you don't have a dominant shot blocker at C or PF like we had the second half of last season, you run a sagging defense to clog the paint while still being within a reasonable distance to recover, although I don't think we did that enough. Payton often times was overly aggressive and I'm convinced he couldn't stay in front of me. This season I like that AG will be playing SF (theoretically) because I feel like he could play a free safety similar to what Oladipo did. Although, Vic would often times over commit leaving a shooter wide open.

I'm convinced Payton was more injured than he led us to believe. Ankle injuries can severely limit you, I know when Curry was going through his injuries some Warrior fan's were probably questioning the pick.

I thought about it as well, I can see us trading for Wall if the Wizards miss the playoffs again though I think it would take something like Payton/Biz/Hezonja and the Lakers pick.

You're talking about John Wall not Wilt Chamberlain. The Wizard's GM would probably break dance after that trade.

Yeah I agree... I don't think it will take that much tbh. Especially if Wall is at the end of his contract.

This is the kind of trade I'm talking about though.

Right, I meant Biz or Hezonja, not both.

I'd rather Zimmer be able to develop sooner than later.

Vuc is a borderline allstar signed to a really really good deal. If we can use him as a trade chip, that would be best.

I personally feel like Payton can be really good. He's the type of player I think if you surround him with good players he can make them look great, the same goes with Gordon and Biz. None of these players need shots to impact the game.

I mean... yeah, it always depends on the trade value. You make him sound like he has great value, but I haven't seen his value rated that high in the trade ideas I've seen in the T/T forum.

Do you have any good ideas?

I've seen Vuc for Jrue, but I'd rather wait until the summer for Jrue since he's a FA. I've seen Bledsoe but PHX fans laughed at that. I tried putting him all kinds of trades prior to the draft and us getting Serge. Around the league, he doesn't seem to be appreciated much because his defense is often criticized. That's why I always backtrack to keeping him around because he actually IS a good fit now that we have Ibaka and Biyombo around him.

The biggest plus as it relates to Vuc is his contract. At $12m with the new cap, he's at a level where, for example, a contender wouldn't see his contract as a burden to add for the stretch run at the deadline.

I mean if you'd have told Magic fans two years ago that Vuc and Harkless would only be $2m a year apart on salary you'd have gotten some funny reactions.

I'd hang on to him till at least the deadline and see how things progress this season. The problem with that is, if Elfrid doesn't pan out then the asking price when we search for a pg will go up.
