Re: New Rumors and News Thread
I'm hoping Ainge trades Bradley and a filler for Noel. Bradley's pretty much at his peak value given he's cheap for a couple more years. Shooting would suffer this year though, if Smart can't return to his rookie percentage. However, it's a good long-term move, as they'd fill a need at center and maintain max cap space for 2017. Also, I believe they could still fit the contracts of Rozier, Zizic, Mickey, Hunter and Yabusele, and let them develop. Olynyk would go the way of Sullinger...

Salary dump for Utah. Philly gets two more seconds and they have plenty of cap space to waive him. It's almost like Hinkie is still in control of that team.

Because they're planning to trade Noel or Okafor?
See Wiretap, by the way, that no one in the league expects Cousins to resign two years from now, and that Sacramento is betting that Joerger will connect with him the way Mike Malone did. So come January, if they're not clicking, maybe he goes on the market.

How much are you willing to pay Noel in a contract extension? You do know he's an expiring contract, right? He isn't a long-term answer at center unless he's under a long-term contract. If he has a good year next season, he'll likely price himself out of Boston. And you would've traded Bradley for a one-year rental of Noel.
I agree that Ainge should consider trading Bradley while his value is, seemingly, higher than it has been. Personally, I'm still hoping that Gorgui Dieng will become available by the trading deadline.

How does he price himself out of Boston?
They're basically pricing themselves out of 2018 free agency if they sign another max guy. If you want them to punt to 2018 and sign or trade for no one, that's understandable

Holy f*ck that's horrible for Washington. They'd want a Brooklyn pick from us and probably an unprotected 1st from Philly, or the LAL pick.
Supposedly, they are the one with a problem though? ......Not us..or Philly
They would certainly ask for two first rounders....but don't forget, Rozier was a first rounder too! ...and they get that cap space provided by Johnson's and Jerebco's expireings next season.... So they tank and begin their rebuild....
So much for Philly including Kendal Marshal in that second deal.....back to the drawing board!

I suspect that Washington would want a first rounder or two from Philly in this scenario?
Not sure it would cost us one?....but we are giving them Rozier and the two expireings (Johnson and Jerebco) plus sending Young and change plus whatever else it takes of a lessor nature draft pick-wise to Philly to get Noel, Covington, one of the Morris twins (from Washington), Staukus and Kendall Marshal...
Philly gets the best player (Wall) bragging rights. while giving Washington Landry and draft picks....
I dunno?...... I suppose I tweaked this a bit in our favor with the addition of Morris?.... But it would seem logical that we get something good from them for making a deal happen....and Rozier has the goods to be their point of the future?
Who knows? They would probably want Marshal too?...and I suppose we could make that happen without any of our valued draft picks leaving the fold?
Here's that Kendal Marshal adjustment.....We probably waive all the extra players anyway?

Leverage only goes so far. That's the problem when fans think leverage equals another team making an absolutely stupid deal. Washington has absolutely no need to make a deal since both players are under contract for a bit. Sure they might not like each other. But that hasn't stopped players from winning together before.

Damn, when is the last time you saw a 14 player 3 team trade? I would venture never, and this won't be the first.

Perhaps?.....Or they could wait and see where they are at the deadline before doing anything....They do have some time on their side.
Beal's contract is crazy....Would have to think that it would be hard to move that one?...Wall, not so much so for now....

Ainge isn't going to sign Noel to a maximum contract. Besides he's a restricted free agent. Again, if Noel can remain healthy and play at least seventy-plus games and has a productive season next season, it'll be the responsibility of Philadelphia (if they don't trade him) or another franchise to sign him to a maximum contract. Conversely, you'll have Okafor under contract for the next three seasons.
I'm not advocating for the acquisition of either Noel or Okafor. However, Okafor's rookie contract doesn't affect Boston's cap space flexibly for the immediate future.
Like I said, I would rather acquire Dieng from Minnesota.

Okafor's not nearly as good of fit as Noel, and why would MN let Dieng go? They aren't overloaded with bigs like Philly.
Who do you prefer they spend money on?

I don't know as much about Deng as I do about Noel because I haven't seen him play as much but Deng does have some decent numbers:
NBA Regular Season Stats - Per Game
13-14 in 60 games he averaged 4.77 points with 5 rebounds and shot .498 on field goals with .634 free throws in 14 minutes.
14-15 in 73 games he averaged 9.73 points with 8 rebounds and shot .506 on field goals with .783 free throws in 30 minutes.
15-16 in 82 games he averaged 10.09 points with 7 rebounds and shot .532 on field goals with .827 free throws in 27 minutes.
Tot. in 215 games he averaged 8.48 points with 7 rebounds and shot .5.16 on field goals with .778 free throws in 24 minutes
That's some pretty consistent offensive numbers..I must say!
And you would have next to no concerns about leaving him out there in crunch time...He's a career 78% free throw shooter! .....Wow!.....Noel will never be that!
But defensively, is he anywhere's near as good as Norlens Noel?
And why would Minnesota trade him?......Deng is still playing major minutes for them?
