Surprised no one has mentioned the Hornets yet, that seems like the most obvious one given last season's 48 wins. Of course I'm assuming the consensus is they will be an above 35 win team, but perhaps it's assumed they will not do as well

Milwaukee Bucks.

They under performed last year after all the hype that were getting here in realgm.

This year will be worse.
Lets go Lakers!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

If a team is all banged up and injured and fail to meet expectations, I don't view that as under performing. If a team loses their star player to injury, then the expectations would be a lot less going forward.

The Rockets and the Bucks were my two most disappointing teams last season, from where they were expected to finish. I was going to go Rockets, but with their play last season, it's going to be hard to compete with that. Bucks have no expectations so to speak of. I also considered the Pelicans, but since that team was pretty banged up, I don't think many people view them as a playoff team anymore.

I going to go East and say it's a toss up between the Knicks, Bobcats and Bulls.

The player who is going to struggle and under perform is Harrison Barnes.

In West
GS because of the high expectations obviously they will be good but see 65 wins
SAS see them moving closer to 4th or 5th in West rather than the consensus 2nd.

In East
Boston will be a strong team but unless they make a significant trade will be rooted in a similar position to last year.
Miami think they are obviously in trouble plus still doubtful that Bosh will contribute see them missing the playoffs

Trouble staying healthy. Weakest where they need to be strongest (in the backcourt.) Stiff competition.

I could see them finishing around 32-33 wins.

As a Jazz fan, I also think Jazz are getting overhyped. I don't see us winning 50-51 games. But 32-33 wins??? Are you serious?

Just Look at those western conf teams. Super hyper healthy blazers who won 44 games last season.
Mavericks
Rockets
Injury Prone, old Grizzlies
Pelicans
Thunder

How can the Jazz lose that many games? They won 40 with their starting 5 missing about 180 games combined. Portland won 44 with 0 injuries. Did portland get better? Did houston get better? Did dallas get better?

Yes. Bogut > Zaza, Barnes = Parsons, Curry > Felton

Everyone else is the same from last year. Only thing that makes Dallas worse is if Wes or Dirk get hurt.

I think it's funny to see Utah fans discount the end of last season as a reason for Portland to be good, while pointing to a stretch from two years ago as the reason they are going to be good. I'll tell you what won't disappoint, the Northwest division is going to be a battle this season I can't wait!!

No hype around HB, at least as a Dallas fan. So no underperforming really. He already had the hype and underperformed in the Finals before he came over.

HB will have a better year than parsons. In fact he'll be around where Parsons was at when he was healthy.

wider society/media is basically expecting the warriors to win 82 games and sweep the playoffs for the next 3-5 years so of course they will under perform against that metric

I feel like the Jazz are getting hyped and put down for the wrong reasons. They can be a very good team, but the pundits haven't done a great job of explaining how they can from what I've seen. The Jazz are trendy, and that's leading to a lot of shallow analysis that is fairly criticized. Maybe Lowe will write a good piece on the team before the season starts.

Miami Heat

They will be one of the worst teams in the East on merit. By March, they'll be in full tank mode. Trying to maximize one of the few 1st round picks they have the next few years.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Haha, I understand that you pump beta, but let's be Holyfield. I'll even give you pre-Tyson Holyfield. The Heat will be in the mix for the 7-8th spot. The east didn't get that much better.

Then Phoenix came back to the average of their expectations. I think this might be Portland's year to take a step back, not the step forward most are predicting. I think they were good because of 3 main reasons. #1 - incredible health. They may or may not be as healthy again this year, but you would reasonably expect an average amount of missed games this year. #2 - outstanding performances from role players. Gotta give it to the role players and coaching, they got every ounce of production tbey could last year. That might be hard to repeat, especially as opposing teams have a better scouting report on them this season. #3 - the emergence of McCollum. He could be even better this year, but opposing defenses will be more keyed to slow him down more.

Could go either way, but I'm predicting a 2 game drop from last year.

2 game drop is almost nothing though. Especially if health is the factor there. The Suns dropped back 9 games then 16. They actually got easier to beat, even at full health.

Whatever though, I like being discounted. The Blazers with Lillard and Stotts have always exceeded expectations and fed on doubters, so bring it on. All our players will be a year older and a year better. If potentially having worse health is really the worst thing you can say about us then I'm fine with our position.

Everyone loves to use the Suns from the last two seasons as an example of a team that failed to meet the expectations, but that's a pretty lazy analysis. In 2014/2015 season, before Goran Dragic started a mutiny, the Suns were 28-20. That's a 48-win pace, exactly the same as the previous season. And then... **** hit the fan and we made some big moves at the deadline and our main acquisition was injured for the rest of the season. Last year for the first two months of the season we were healthy but Markieff Morris and Jeff Hornacek were actively sabotaging the team. I don't think the last ~110 games are in any way representative of what this Suns team is really capable of.

Fair enough. But isn't the national consensus that they will miss the playoffs anyway?

The consensus thoughts from the majority of Magic fans is that we will be fighting for the eighth seed and many think we will ultimately not make it due to many teams in the east getting better. How in the world is that under performing "relative to their own fans' expectations". No one could statistically prove or convince me we will be a bottom feeding team again this season with our new acquisitions and coaching change.

Teams under performing
- Boston
- Detroit

Players under performing
- Jimmy Butler
- Carmelo Anthony

Teams over performing
- Washington
- Minnesota

Players over performing
- Ibaka
- Anderson

Might be missing something, but 70 percent of Magic fans on the team's board think they'll make the playoffs.
