Who do you cheer for on college football Saturdays and why? I imagine most of you have one main team that you root for, but what other schools do you like?
My order of college football allegiance (in order) goes:
1. Utah State - I've been going to Aggie games since I was a baby, and still rarely miss one They're not a national powerhouse, but you know what? I don't care. I'll always be a big supporter.
2. University of Maryland - Learned to love the Terps while I was living in Maryland near their campus.
3. University of Utah - Used to not care for them, but as time goes on I find myself cheering for them more and more. Also, I love watching Pac 12 football.
4. A G5 team vs. a P5 team - I just love a good upset. Unless it's one of the teams I've listed above, I will almost always cheer for a group of 5 team to upset a power 5 team.
5. Any conference vs. the SEC - This goes back to the upset thing. I really don't have anything against the SEC as a whole, I just love watching teams upset one of the "big boys".
6. West coast teams - geography isn't super important to me, but when I'm otherwise impartial on who to cheer for, I'd usually rather a west coast team win

Re: Who do you cheer for?
Well because of the way the college football crappy playoff system is set up, I pull for every PAC 12 team outside of conference play, and in conference play I would rather the best teams lose so AZ can get a good bowl.
The thing I hate MOST about college football is that if your team loses two games, you have pretty much no chance of the playoffs. So if you start 4-2 you the rest of your games are meaningless unless bowl games are important. But they really are not since winners and losers go home.
In general I pull for the best and highest ranked teams to lose, unless they are PAC 12 high ranked teams playing out of conference. In a high profile matchup, I almost always pull for the underdog.
I'd like to see different teams in the 4 team playoff every year. Also I'd like to see high powered offensive teams, because I enjoy watching them more.

1 - University of Southern California. When I was a lad in the Central Coast region of California, Mike Garrett and O. J. ruled. And - I was a kid in band who dug those Trojan uniforms. Even though I moved to Texas in 1969, I still wear my USC swag proudly. Still trying to score a ticket to the game next weekend at the Death Star against Bama. Fingers crossed.
2. The "U". Mainly because back in the 80's they would regularly beat Oklahoma and Texas. Where I live (10 miles south of the Red River north of Dallas), you either root for one of those two or you are looked upon with disdain. I have a Miami cap. Pull it out now and then.
3. TCU. Once again - it's a thing where not rooting for either of the big money teams comes into play. And I really do like Gary Patterson. Quality coach and from what I am told by folks associated with the program, quality man.

Re: Who do you cheer for?
I love BYU, then I tend to have a team I root for in each P5 conference but none of them compare to BYU
I really like Stanford, it's a dream school for me and I liked them because they gave the Niners Walsh and Harbaugh
For the Big 10, Michigan, I love Harbaugh and I will always root for him
Big 12 hopefully BYU soon
, but I actually don't really have a team that I really like in here
ACC, UNC, I lived there for 3 years and I was converted
SEC I don't really have one

Honestly I vary on matchup, I have a handful of teams I don't like. Mostly if PSU wins, I'm good. They lose, I'm not.

Must have felt good to watch Eastern Washington beat Wazzau this weekend! UW has a STACKED team this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the playoff discussion.

Yeah, its been a long time since UW has appeared to be any good. I'm going to the Stanford game on the 30th. Should be a heck of a game. I only caught the tail end of the WSU/EWU game.

Re: Who do you cheer for?
oklahoma state is #1
then bama cause my moms whole family pretty much went there
big 12 outside of OU and Texas (though i found myself pulling for UT sunday, cause i do like charlie strong)
that's about it. it'd be kinda cool if smu or north texas could field a decent team

I +1'd your post because of this reason #2. I love that you had Option #1, Option #2...but you took Option #3!
For me it is the Houston Cougars. Not just because they are the current media darlings.
I'm a Houston guy, through and through. My school didn't have a football program...well, they did, but it was that weird "football" they play in Europe & South America.

I like that the Cougs have quietly built a quality little program down there... started with Briles then Sumlin. I wouldn't mind seeing them in the Big XII-minus-II but I'm not so sure the teams north of me and the Red River want any part of that.
