I'm not as hyped as I was for the freshman Jameis year (which turned out alright I recall!), but I am hearing some really good things about this kid from friends of mine who never grew up and still live in Tally.

Really excited for Monday it should be a really good game Ole miss looks legit. Think it's going to be a great season though.

What has you feeling Francois will have a year anywhere close to what Jameis did in his first year?

The hype around Jameis was enormous in recruiting. That hype grew and grew and grew while he was red-shirting as the menorable practice highlights were often by him rather than the guy playing that week. The coaches obviously don't talk about players who aren't playing but word around the lockeroom, the media and campus was that something special was on the bench and ready to erupt the following year. Even these high expectations did not live up to the reality. He was / is that good.

I'm hearing a lot of good things about him being able to both manage the offense with smart decisions while also having the big arm when needed. This is what you want to hear when you have Dalvin Cook along with the wide outs and O-line we do. But nothing I'm hearing is on par with what we heard for in anticipation of Jameis.

So what have you heard that has you believing this?

The reason I made the comparison between Jameis and Francois Is because there its a lot of things similar. Just like Jameis was he is going to be a redshirt freshman that spent all of last year learning jimbos offense on scout team. Just like Jameis he also had a lot of hype coming out of high school. He was the number 2 ranked quarterback and has had a large amount of hype and build up especially since spring. There has also been really encouraging things coming out of the practices. Here is a quote from Demarcus Walker.

Man, he's great. He's great with the ball," Walker said. "He knows how to take control of the huddle, the wide receivers. Doing the small things like listening to coach Fisher, listening to [quarterbacks coach Randy] Sanders. Then also staying after practice and doing those things

I'd say it's safe to be pretty optimistic about this kid. With Jimbo being the quarterback guru that he is too he's going to have this kid ready to go. I'm excited to see him this season.

I 100% agree that the noise around Francois is all positive. But comparing his hype now to that of Winston coming into his starting role year is like comparing draftee Wiggins to draftee Lebron. Wiggins was far and away the #1 prized pick. Lebron was an unmatched spectacle.

Jimbo is a QB whisperer. I trust any QB under his guidance. Trust me I hated the Rix era too, but his OC was Jeff Freakin' Bowden. If Jimbo were around during Rix era, I have no doubt Rix would have one a Heisman, like many believed he could coming out of high school. Hell if Rix was during the Richt OC era, he would have one a Heisman.

Will Francois win a Heisman? TBD, but I have confidence in the kid, because Jimbo is his coach. Jimbo isn't going to ask him to throw for 4000 yds and 40 TDs. He's going to ask Francois to manage the game, don't turn the ball over and let Dalvin Cook do the majority of damage that we will do on offense.

I think the thing is what he has around him. He has a legit Oline and an elite RB, plus one of the better WR cores in the country.

Jameis is a once every 10-15 years QB. I watched Deondre at Spring practice and I don't see him at that level. Funny enough, the guy who really impressed me was Malik Henry. If he can get his act together, and put weight on, he could be incredible in a year or two.

Deondre does have the tools though to be a top QB in the country. I just don't see him pulling a Jameis and winning a Heisman plus a Natty year one. That's legendary stuff that nobody does.

As for the game, my expectation is that the defense will be better (both the secondary and the linebackers), the O-line will be slightly better, and that Francois will be at least as good as Golson/Smag were last year. Maguire threw 11 TD's to 6 INT's and Golson just couldn't cut it as the season wore on.

I don't expect Francois to be as good as Winston was, but Jameis didn't have Dalvin Cook in the backfield so while the offense won't be as good as the 2013 team, I think it will be good enough to make a run at the CFP.

Hang on there. If you want to backtrack and say the hype for the season has you not thinking straight then go for it. We all hit reach that at some point in anticipation. But you can't spew this level of incompetence without trying to make an argument.

If you really believe a coaching change would have been the difference between the reality we saw the the greatness you expected, then why didn't an NFL GM feel the same way and sign him?

NFL coaches are the same people who felt so sure of their ability turn Tebow and Manziel into NFL stars that they used 1st picks based only on physical tools. Where was their shared faith in Rix?

We're talking about Francois in comparison to Winston during their RS Freshman year, in which Winston didn't have a nearly 1700 yard rusher had a historic season in FSU rushing terms (Freeman ran for for just over 1000 yards and had 5 less TD's in 2013 than Cook did).

Also, while I don't expect Francois to play as well as Winston this year or any year, there was significant chatter during fall camp 2013 that Coker and Winston were even and that Coker may have even had the edge on Winston. So while Winston was certainly hyped as a recruit, he didn't blow Coker away going into the 2013 season. So, its hard to know exactly how Francois will play at this stage.

Ya I mean I think there have been good points for both sides. Certainly Francois should be good no doubt but comparing him to Jameis is unfair. It's like comparing Oladipo to Dwyane Wade.

Jameis had quite literally nearly as perfect a fairytale freshman season a QB in college could have. Wins Heisman, 40+ TD passes, widely celebrated leadership ability that was covered heavily by the media, and of course, leading a late surge in the Championship game with the final pass to Kelvin Benjamin for the final TD against **** SEC team and their **** fans.

It was like a goddamn movie dude. You couldn't make up a better story.

Yeah and KB and Winston have gone on to be ballers in the league as well. That's what I like. The guys from the UF Urban Meyer team all flamed out or went to prison for homicide. That UF team was a blast to watch though.

This year I think we see a very physical FSU team..really hitting that Alabama/Saban mold more than ever. We have the best safety in america, and he will be laying wood down. Dalvin Cook will wear teams down in the first half and then break their spirit in the second. All we need is the expected good play from our Oline, which is massive now. And Francois just needs to make the smart plays and convert 3rd downs. He needs to ease into the role. The good news is he has talent everywhere around him. What I would love to see is us physically dominate Ole Miss, but that would be best case. It would make a massive statement though.

It is still early in the 2nd quarter but we don't look good. Francois made a terrible read in the red zone to cost us a TD and the O-line isn't playing up to expectations. This is ugly.

Okay... I'm eating my words (but the Jameis comparisons are still too early).

The O-line play in the 2nd half has been what we expected all along. Great protection and no penalties. When he has time, Francois has looked fantastic.
