Pacers sign Kevin Seraphin

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Fri Sep 2, 2016 4:22 am

Ian Begley of ESPN is reporting the Pacers have signed Kevin Seraphin to a 2 year deal with the 2nd year a team option. He's 6'10'' 278 and averaged 3.9 pts per game last year with the Knicks.

Ex-Knick Kevin Seraphin has agreed to a two-year deal with the Pacers, sources confirm. The first year is guaranteed and the second year is a team option. The Pacers have 16 players under guaranteed contracts and will need to cut one of them before the start of the regular season.

Adding to that front court. Low risk, high reward type move. He's still young (only 26).

Who gets cut?
I'd say Evans is most likely. Followed by Christmas.

I really like it. He's one of those guys that always seemed to play well against us.

Evans, for sure. Unless Christmas just had a really awful offseason, Evans won't even have an offseason, and can't return to basketball work until after the regular season starts, barring any massive speeding up of healing from surgery.

Hard not to like. He's paid very little, knows he's coming in as the 3rd string C, at best, and there's no guaranteed future salary? I'll take it.

I like it :)

Always good to have an experienced NBA center behind someone like big Al Jefferson, whos defense and health are questionable.

If Christmas doesn't show enough improvement in camp, I think both him and Evans could get cut.

Cuz I would like to add another veteran SG. With a reliable 3 point shot this time?

Gosh. I don't think I could agree with this anymore than I do. Good write up.

Off the top of my head, who is out there that fits the bill? Kevin Martin?

Should be Evans he's probably not gonna be ready to play at the beginning of the season. No need to cut Christmas.

Kevin Martin yes, if he doesn't decline even further. NBA.com has Gary Neal still as a free agent. Those are the only 2 names I can think of. They are a coveted species, a trade might be more likely. Though most likely is we will just get another not so efficient one I guess :P

I like Gary Neal. He would just be another undersized guard if he was added though.

Wizards fan coming into say you'll inevitably be disappointed by Seraphin. Has arguably one of the best hook shots in the game, its absolutely money. He's also pretty athletic and moves very well for a 280lb guy. Unfortunately he's a black hole offensively, has the awareness of a dead animal, basically unplayable because of his defensive rotations and generally would rather enjoy KSlife (i.e. haven fun, dress fashionably) than sell out trying to help his team win games.

The upside is he's a 3rd stringer and hopefully he'll only see the court in garbage time.

Yeah. He's essentially an injury only guy, if he even makes the team. Though he's making $1.8m this year, it's not so much that he couldn't be waived if he bombed out in camp.

Well, Neal fits the role, but he's an awful teammate and has been awful in the last couple locker rooms. He thinks he should start everywhere he goes, and has been angry on twitter all summer that other guys are getting paid and he isn't signed. He thinks he should've gotten more money than Beal.

Yeah Neal would be a good option if he was a better vet and was fine with fighting for a shot at the end of the bench in camp. Still wouldn't be shocked at all if Bird gave him a shot since he fits the bill probably better than any other FA left and he could talk himself into Neal just having a chip on his shoulder.

I actually like that type of bravado. You want guys who believe and play with that type of confidence. The downside is that he needs to learn to get along with guys better. Over the years he has come in off the bench for the Spurs or even the Wizards last season and lit it up in short spells. I didnt pay much attention to his Bobcat days. But I definitely remember moments like the one where he basically won the spurs a finals game against Miami. [youtube]

Landry would fill a need but I'd prefer to upgrade Stuckey.

If we're getting a shooting guard let's get Lance.

So...

Teague-Brooks-Young
Ellis-Stuckey
George-Miles-Robinson
Young-Allen-Niang
Turner-Jefferson-Séraphin-Christmas

Guessing Evans is the cut.
