Clippers Poll Questionnaire: For The Casual And Anti-Clipper Fans

Post#1 » by Wammy Giveaway » Sun Sep 4, 2016 5:02 pm

For the past two months since the beginning of the off-season, there have been grand murmurs regarding Blake Griffin's future with the Clippers. Casual and anti-Clipper fans wished for Griffin's departure because the team couldn't do any better, not even now with the Warriors invincible. As for Clipper fans who want to keep Blake, there seems to be a clear divide between two radical views: the basketball side where all that was needed was growth, pain, and luck - versus the emotional side who fear trading Griffin would put the Clippers back into the dark days with no chance of returning to the playoffs ever again.

In response to this, I've created two polls to help take the temperature of the two opposing sides on Twitter. The polls will last for five more days.

These polls, along with the varied responses I collect here and on Twitter, will be used for an upcoming article on the importance of Blake Griffin. Are the Clippers keeping him for basketball reasons, or is it purely sentimental? For the non-Clipper fan and the ones who detest the team with all their heart, are they fooling themselves for keeping him?

If you have a Twitter account, please retweet and vote. I want to have as many responses and votes as possible to create a convincing argument for both sides.

I don't have Twitter. But if you trade Blake you should trade any player worth anything for young players and assets. Full tank or keep Blake. Hate seeing teams do it half ass.

Why would they tank when they're still a top 4 seed without Blake? You trade him to make a better fit with Chris Paul, or you keep him to supplement Chris Paul's decline. Everything else is just noise.

Are you still able to vote on the Twitter polls even if you don't have an account?

Blake Griffin to Kings
Demarcus Cousins to Celtics
Jae Crowder+Rudy Gay to Clippers

with more players involved to match salaries, etc etc

Griffin stays in california, the clippers get their SFs, and the Kings/Cousins saga comes to an end. Cousins joins former teammate IT.

I'm more than a casual
Clippers fan. I watch almost every game they play. I think they should hang onto Blake for both image and basketball reasons. He is the best player they ever drafted and I think he is the best power forward in the NBA when healthy. I am concerned about his leg though and the only way I'd consider trading him is if they were to get a really good wing player back for him like Paul George for example. Doc did a good job of improving the clips power forward position with bass, Johnson, and speights- so they would be decent at the 4 in such a trade. It is fairly moot though because Indiana probably wouldn't agree to such a trade

Casual Clippers fan, actually just a CP3 fan, and trading Blake isn't the way to go. The players you get back for Blake isn't beating the Warriors or Cavs and basically treadmills the franchise(especially if CP3 stays). Injury luck(and 1 choke) is the only reason why the Clippers haven't been past the 2nd round and giving the youngest star and media draw for the team isn't a way to put people in seats. Blake likes LA and I personally believe Doc is too loyal(Redick/Crawford's past contract situations) to trade any of his bigger guys for anything.

That value is incredibly weak even if Griffin is in his final year and I don't think Doc Rivers wants to deal with Danny Ainge in a negotiation.

It's important to take as much emotion out of this as possible and really focus on how sports narratives work. Griffin in the first month of the season was a top 2 MVP candidate. Paul George got flaming hot and he fell to 3rd on most ladders by the time he got injured. So basically he was a top 5 player this year when healthy who was putting up 23/9/5+. This was immediately following an insanely dominant 14 game playoff stretch where he averaged 25+/12+/6+. Numbers not posted in a playoff run since prime Oscar Robertson.

Meaning when healthy Blake has been in the MVP race 3 times. An all star every single year besides last year when injured. On the All NBA teams every year besides last year when injured. We are talking about a top 10 lock who any given season can potentially put up a top 3 year.

Nobody on the planet would of suggested trading him and all the sudden because he punches someone, we start discussing trades? Media suddenly has all these sources saying he will be moved. You don't find this suspect at all?

Blake Griffin has been hands down one of the hardest working, consistently improving players since he came into the league. He's an outstanding teammate and a perennial all star who's about to turn 27 and will likely be a first ballot HOF, still not peaked probably.

Chris Paul and DJ should be moved long before Blake I'd the Big 3 is going to break up. Griffin was drafted here and there is no reason to this point for him not to retire here.

Now the emotional fan side of it.

Blake griffin means a lot more to the Clippers than CP3 and that's both how fans love him, ticket sales, first franchise player drafted by us really who's a superstar and re-signed, likely will again. If Blake maxes out as rumored next summer he will have a minimum of a 12 year career as a Clipper.

No other star historically has stayed more than 3 or 4 seasons with us. Brand was the only one and the way he left was a huge blow to fans. Blake is our Dirk. Our Kobe. Our Duncan.

I never for once considered that! That avatar was taken at The Simpsons Ride in Universal Studios Hollywood in 2011, coincidentally on the night of Blake Griffin's first career ejection (other ejections included Baron Davis, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom).

I really need to update that avatar. I'm way older and thus completely far removed from my joven (young) self.
