Reports are surfacing that we're interested.
I know we've got a glut of PF's but he's too good not to take a flyer on. And by "good" I mean "efficient," unlike a lot of our roster.
What do you guys think?

Re: Carl Landry?
He's still going to be good in limited minutes. But if he's looking for playing time, I doubt the Pacers can give him enough to somehow spark a resurgence.

Re: Carl Landry?
Yeah I can't see him getting many minutes for us.
He'd be nice to have as an end of the bench guy, but without a trade we'd have to eat a guaranteed deal to do it. Seraphin means Evans is getting waived which is fine since we got paid 3 times his salary to take him. If we sign Landry, then it means one of him, Seraphin, Christmas, Niang or maybe even Brooks is losing out on the last spot.

Sure, I like him, but I fear he might be too efficient for the Pacers

Seraphin is a 5. Christmas hasn't shown me anything. Niang is a rookie. Brooks is a 1. the player that would lose the most time to Landry is Lavoy Allen. If Landry can guard the perimeter, that'd be a good thing.

I was more getting at that I personally wouldn't want Landry over any of the guys we already have as one would have to get cut. Unless things work out 100% we're not a contender (and even then probably not either). So I see no reason to add Landry at the expense of a young guy, a PG we need, or Seraphin since we just signed him (though I could care less if that spot went to Landry instead).
If Landry could guard the perimeter while still being a positive on offense (which he was last year), then he would have been well worth his previous deal and not waived.

teams need a timeline. he was waived by a team that needs playing time for very young players. had he been waived by a team likely to be 500 or better, I'd agree with you.

Philly's timeline really doesn't matter here. They would have traded him instead of just eating the money if they could. It was a bad contract, which is why Sacramento had to pay to dump him. And he was a poor defender before injuries and turning 33. His career Drtg is 108 and Dbpm is -1.1.

Re: Carl Landry?
Landry's greatest value is in that he was a great locker room guy in Philly. He's always been a "not good defender", but over the last 5 years, he's descended into "horrible defender" category. He's still a guy that can score efficiently inside of 2 feet, and from 10 feet to the 3 pt line, and can rebound a bit, but he's not mobile, and he certainly cannot guard the perimeter.
Think of him as a more broken down, but somehow younger, Luis Scola. Thrives on trickiness and veteran wiles, but unable to stay as healthy.

Re: Carl Landry?
if he's a Scola, we already have one in Niang.

Well, except Niang has range out past the 3 pt line, and he's still a bit more mobile, being younger and all.
But yeah, I think Niang projects out, best case scenario, as a Carl Landry like career. Sure, it's hit or miss if he ever does, but that's a similar level impact you can dream for.

Re: Carl Landry?
Landry can't stay healthy and we don't have the roster spots.
