All time Europe has just as good attackers and midfielders and far better defenders and goalkeepers.

For Europe I'd probably go something like this:

GK: Buffon

LB: Maldini
CB: Beckenbauer
CB: Bobby Moore
RB: Thuram

CM: Zidane
CM: Cruyff
LM: Ronaldo
RM: Figo

CF: Eusebio
CF: Gerd Muller

I'm sure others will disagree. I know the lack of Kroos will offend No_20. I probably have a slight bias for 90s/early 00s players too as I grew up watching them with a real fondness, and a burgeoning love of the game.

Lahm is better than Thuram for sure.

Leaving out both Xavi AND Iniesta is weird though. Nostalgia, I guess.

don't make me laugh. Europe never had anything close to South America in terms of going forward...

You say defenders, but David Luiz, Dante, Silva, Mirand and Marquinhos all were rated top in the world.

Irony of team europe being superior defenders, however, ATL MAdrid has probably been the best defensive team for the past few years...... Let's see who plays in the backfour for them during that span.

Godin, Miranda, Gimenez, Luis. 3 out of 4 of them were usually south Americans...

None of them individually is a great player: they make a lot of mistake when they play in NT...

NYCLaker wrote:You say defenders, but David Luiz, Dante, Silva, Mirand and Marquinhos all were rated top in the world.

Maybe they are rated pretty high right now but, meh... besides T.Silva they are average at best in an all time rank (and even Silva is just little above average).

However I easely give to SA the edge on attackers and on FB (especially offensive FB). Other than that I always pick Europe (GK, CB and all midfield).

I get that SA >>>>> is your spiel; but Cruyff, Gerd, and KHR were three of the greatest forwards to ever play the game; with the likes of Hagi, van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Henry, Ibra, etc. all having been legends in their day.

And bringing up a team who parks the bus to hype CBs is silly. Athletico is so strong defensively because all 10 men work so hard to be destructive all across the pitch; this is why the likes of Griezmann & Niguez are tasked with so much work against the ball...and also why they struggle in matches where they can't get on the counter.

if we go All time, South America has better attackers for Sure, not even close.
But all around europe is better in the back and Middle.

If im " coach europe" id go with

--------------------------------------------------------Casillas-----------------------------------------------------------
---------Puyol-------------------------Baresi--------------------Beckenbauer--------------------Maldini-----------
-----------------------------------------Xavi----------------------Rijkaard-------------------------------------
---------Cristiano---------------------------------Zidane------------------------------------Cruyffj-----------
-----------------------------------------------------Van Basten-------------------------------------------------

And you still have a hell of a bench with Buffon, Thuram, Cannavaro,Facchetti,Lahm,Gullit, Mathaus,Figo,Iniesta,Gullit,Henry for example

mmm, Germany, Spain,Italy
that makes 14 years since the Almighty S.A won the World cup.

Lets make it a whoopping 3 for S.a to 5 europe in the last 30 years.

that must mean something.

REALLY.. BEcuase Ramos isn't known around Europe(I like Ramos btw, just stated others view) as an overrated defender? Or Pique.

Funny how when Barcelona/Real/Spain are in conversation, these same people call them overrated defenders... Not like Real Madrid and Zidane didn't play conservatively to win the Champs League.... OR man City make it all the way to the semis with Mangala as their cb and clichy/sanga as their fullbacks....

1v1 Silva is the best defender. Maybe, he is irrelevant vs Italians like Nesta/Maldini, but in Silva's generation, Silva is probably the best defender in the world... (I do agree defenders more or less suck in this generation)

Midfield are more technical in Europe or I Modric + Verrati +Busquets and Neuer is still king of the World, but Vidal (fit) can man mark them very well. He/chile tookout ARgentina two years in a row, even though Chile is an inferior side technically vs Argentina. Verratti and Modric are more like small bulldogs, but you cannot have 2 small bulldogs and a slow DM. Even if some say Pogba, I bet all Juve fans know who exactly the best player of Juventus was (VIdal).

Real madrid won the CL playing that tactic as did Greece, Portugal and Chelsea. You guys make it seem like Europeans dont park the bus. Only manager that never parks the bus is Pep and COPA AMERICANO >EUROS 2016. How anyone can defend the euros this summer I do not know, because if you watched both tournaments, one was obviously better than the other..

You must not understand.

Europe gets 13 teams to the World Cup and FIFA IS AN EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION. You know how many SA get? 4.5.

Even Africa gets more spots than South America.

In 2014 World Cup, all 5 south american sides qualified to the knockout stages. and 4 of them played each other in the first round leaving the option of 2.5 for the next round.

In 2010 WC, all 5 SA sides qualified to the knockout stages. 4 advanced since 2 played each other.

2006: 3 out of 4 SA sides qualified to Knockout stages

Isn't funny, how Euros consider Euros to be a big deal, but AFCON or Copa is a Friendly... HAHAHA, the logic in people these days.

So what you're saying is UEFA >>>> Concacaf

Tough to argue with you there.

True that, not when Yashin is hands down the goalie GOAT.

I'm guessing you are fairly young. Historically Europe have been leagues higher than SA defensively.

If david luiz is in discussion to make your all time team, you are in big trouble defensively.

Casillas is gross

among although those i've watched i would go with carlos-silva-passarella-cafu. probably santamaria and djalma santos makes it if you wanna go ancient.

either way nobody scoring on maldini-beckenbauer-baresi/john stones-thuram.

Not even any combination Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo. Garrincha, messi, Ronaldinho, zico, batistuta, rivaldo, and company?
