Happy that Styles won but the main event wasn't up to his usual standard of excellence. I blame that on Ambrose though. Ambrose is not a main event guy. Good ppv though, most likely got a higher rating due to such low expectations.
Wyatt needs to leave, the WWE is ruining him. He deserves so much more than this.

I wouldn't say it was a waste. They were pretty popular as the top face tag team. And I think part of the impact they're having as heels is because we've only ever known them as good guys.
I think there popularity was the by-product of a very weak tag division more than anything else. Once guys like New Day started to gain momentum they were eclipsed pretty quickly.
I don't know if I agree about there impact being because they've only been known as good guys. I don't think they had the best match they ever had tonight but I think they showed more in-ring personality and charisma tonight than they did since they've been in WWE.

I thought it was a very, very good match. Not as good as either Cena match, but on the level of the Reigns matches.

Weird. Even as a face, I liked the Styles matches (where he got much less offense in) with Reigns a lot better than his match with Ambrose tonight. I'm probably bias though because I think very little of Ambrose. To me, hes Brian Pillman without the charisma and ability.

Re: WWE Backlash 2016
Overall, it was a pretty good night of wrestling. I will nitpick a little bit because that's what message boards are for:
Crews vs Corbin: I actually have no complaints. I though it was a very good match and made both guys look great. It exceeded my expectations.
Womens' Title match: Pretty good overall. I think they abused the "clear out the ring to get only 2 people in" thing a bit too much early (i.e., Naomi was out of the ring for what seemed like 5 minutes from being thrown over the second rope). I get that you need to do it a bit, but there should have been a few more times with at least 4 women in the ring. The head scissors botch was pretty bad in terms of taking me out of the match (mostly because even the second attempt barely worked). I think that if when she noticed it had failed, Natty would have just kicked Naomi in the back or even just stood there and laughed at her failed attempt, it would have played so much better. Up until the botch, Naomi had been the star. Other than that, I would have maybe liked a little more tight grabbing on the Nikki Bella pin, but the rest of the match was alright. I probably would not have had Becky win, storyline-wise (just because I'm not sure there's a credible threat to her on the heel side), but I completely understand wanting to throw her a bone and have her in the record books.
Usos vs Hype Bros: This was a really decent match. I thought they made Mojo look quite formidable. I actually really liked the Usos winning by submission (attacking a limb like they did on Gable). I'm all for wrestlers/tag teams having multiple ways to win. Usos are also already quite good at heel tag team tactics.
Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler: This match far exceeded my expectations. The Miz really stood out in this match. The Bryan-esque drop kicks in the corner were great, especially with the mocking yes chant afterwards. I almost wished that Miz went over clean. I understand the need to protect Dolph as much as possible, but the brilliant thing about the Miz' attack of Bryan is that most of what he said was true. Can you imagine how obnoxious he could be in segments with Bryan had he won clean? Dolph, on the other hand, could have used the "clear loss" as a trigger for something to change with him. I'd love a "I need to be me. WWE ensures that everything about me is fake. Time to go back to my roots" type of thing.
Bray Wyatt vs, Kane: I was hoping for Luke Harper to show up as an adversary for Bray. The Kane announcement was incredibly forgettable. We all thought: "Well, at least Wyatt is guaranteed a PPV". Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. In an ideal match, Wyatt would have beaten Kane after a fairly competitive match. Alternately, I would have liked Orton to RKO Wyatt and then RKO Kane as well.
Usos vs Heath Slater and Rhyno: Solid match. Nice to see Slater come out with fire. The final sequence seemed to be pretty complex but they handled it very well. No real complaints.
AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose: I thought this was a very good match. I really enjoyed a couple of times when Ambrose pulled out some power moves I'd never seen him use. One thing that always bugs me with Dean Ambrose matches is announcers telling us that he's unpredictable, when of all of the guys in WWE, he may have the most predictable matches. Stop telling me otherwise. This was not quite on the same level as Style's other PPV matches, but it was still very good. I also thought it was Ambrose's best match in several PPVs. Ultimately, I think they made the right choice with Styles winning. He's been the MVP of the WWE for the better part of a year and Ambrose had been spinning his wheels a bit.
Overall, I thought this was a solid show. I thought that the talent all put in a very solid effort. I also thought that the talent deserved a much better crowd than what they got: They were quiet. They couldn't organize a chant to save their lives and they cheered heels in a semi-disrespectful way (i.e., Raw crows boo Jericho, even though they love him, out of respect. AJ/Ambrose didn't get that type of treatment).

Re: WWE Backlash 2016
good show overall, thought styles v ambrose was solid. glad styles won but surprised they pulled the trigger so quickly on him and didn't give dean a bit longer but it probably is the right time to capitalise on styles and the right time to take it off dean before he becomes stale as champ (still very solid first reign for ambrose) also this is the first time we don't have a shield world champ since seth won his first world title at mania last year.
amazed they gave becky the title but she will be good for the division for sure, wonder who comes after her first though.
Heath and Rhyno winning is surprising but it will be interesting to see where this goes.
miz is absolute fire right now, whilst dolph has fallen off a bit since his world title feud. the little things he did to mock bryan were great also.
they're butchering wyatt, losing to kane, yes i know not clean, but what does wyatt benefit from feuding with orton, orton isn't losing two feuds in a row, just throw wyatt a bone and let him go after a title, even if he is a dominant IC champ more like Rusev is on raw thats fine for now.
thats really my only complaint about the show which i thought for a B-PPV, was very good.

How the eff does Bray Wyatt keep losing? You cannot have a character that makes such grandiose proclamations and lose every single feud (at least not at the beginning of the feud). This has to be one of the greatest character concept wise, great execution by the individual playing the character and complete eff up by the booking to kill him.

I want to know the WWE's feelings on Wyatt. I can only recall one mutli-match feud that Bray actually won and that was against Ambrose. They either leave him off of PPVs or he's just there to take an L. It's so weird.

Re: WWE Backlash 2016
The only thing that would make sense with Wyatt losing last night is if it ensures he wins the next match against Orton. Otherwise if he loses the feud with Orton, the guy just looks like an absolute joke, if he doesn't already. Like everyone else has mentioned, I just don't get what they're doing with him. There has to be a big payoff for him eventually.
Other than that, I thought the PPV was about as good as anyone could have possibly hoped for. The crowd was pretty lame for the majority of the evening, but I did like their indifference to Ambrose in the main event. He wasn't getting Reigns type level of heat, but you could tell that people are starting to get turned off by him. Styles beating Cena and then getting the belt at the very next PPV is beyond awesome. Hope he has himself a long reign with the belt.
Heel Uso's are great. Long overdue, but they're going to be in a great feud with AA for hopefully the next couple of months. I just keep thinking that if they ever pulled the trigger and did the same thing for their cousin...what an absolute monster heel he could be.
I think the WWE product as a whole would just be better if RAW went down to 2 hours. SD is the better show by in large right now, and they were able to pull off a really good 2 hour and 45 minute PPV with just their roster. RAW has the better collective roster, so you'd think that they'd be able to do the same thing.

Re: WWE Backlash 2016
I was looking at Wyatt's W/L record and it's pretty brutal. Wyatt's last win on a televised event (other than last night's "win" vs Orton) was July 24 at Battleground vs The New Day in a 6man tag. The win vs Orton last night brings Wyatt's televised record to 1-5 since the draft. He's had 1 singles win since Sept 24th, 2015 and that was against Xavier Woods on the Smackdown prior to Battleground.

It's almost as if the WWE is making it part of his shtick ironically to lose feuds and big PPV matches
Before you know Bray will lose to like Fandango or something.

Am I the only one that hasn't found Bray interesting for about 3 years now? Once I realized he's just gonna give the same promo every time I pretty much just fast forward through his segments.

I'm with you. The Jericho feud that was largely a flop was where he kinda lost me. He's gotten my interest back for fleeting moments this year with the very brief face turn and the first few weeks with New Day with Xavier. But once they did the knockoff Final Deletion, he lost my interest again.

I was a huge fan of the Wyatt family, but him by himself, and his slightly changed look it's just not the same.
I don't like the all black get up, and the dreads.
I liked the back woods southern cult like leader.

Even the feud with Ambrose was bad. He won that feud because Ambrose was basically the dumbest character in the history of pro wrestling. That feud absolutely sucked. They Wyatt "ghost" (hologram) in the HIAC match, Ambrose having a tv monitor blow up in his face because he doesn't understand how electricity works, the dumbass ambulance match, all of it. The whole thing sucked.

Good ppv, solid all the way through. Really liked the feel of the show too. Toned down JBL is refreshing. Miz had himself a nice night and I thought the main event was really good.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show last night. Everything had a purpose, the right people won, the right storylines were pushed forward. Very entertaining night of wrestling for me.
