Thursday Games

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Tue Sep 13, 2016 4:13 am

Let's do this thread again for the new season!

I hate Thursday games. Absolutely hate them!

It's one thing to play on Thanksgiving. That's cool, but regular games on Thursday nights just annoy me.

Who else wants to get rid of Thursday games?

I like more football, though I'd rather it be Friday games. Let college have Thursday, pro on Friday would be nice. There is NOTHING on tv on Fridays if you happen to be home that night. Though I imagine they don't do Fridays due to people out doing things, but I still bet ratings would be huge. Thursday is too little rest.

This is interesting. I've never had any problem whatsoever with Thursday games, I actually think they're really nice because there are usually at least a couple college games Friday night, so that leaves Tuesday and Wednesday as the only days without football. I can see why a team would not want to play on Thursday with the short week and everything, but I'm curious why don't you like them as a fan?

So other then "they annoy you" What is the reasoning/rationale behind "WHY" do you *hate* Thursday night games?

I don't care either way so. Just wondering.

Viewers dig it, but staff and players would rather not.

It's a nice perk in the middle of my week. Keep it.

Unless we are forced to watch the likes of the Jets and Bills. How pathetic, seriously.

I do not like how they create shorter weeks for some teams. If they limited teams to only playing on Thursday if they were coming off of or going into a bye week then that would be much better.

Also, I'm just a traditionalist, I guess. For me, NFL is Sunday & one game Monday night. Any other day of the week it should be a special occasion like a holiday. Most of the time I don't watch Thursday night games unless the Texans are playing, but even then it won't be a sure thing. It is just not a football night to me. Like bwgood77 said - maybe if it was Friday instead that would be different; but even then I'm not sure that I'd like that, either.

Saturday for playoffs is fine by me, as it is a special event.

i'm not a fan (outside of thanksgiving), shorter weeks, injuries, and terrible matchups (it seems like anyway)

they always seem to take them from the noon games, near the end of the year, and there isn't a nice ratio of noon to late afternoon games on sunday

Too many lop sides games as well. And the uniform thing they had last year is a bit much.

I still prefer the jersey/ pant contrast for the most part. I hate it when teams are the same color from helmet to shoes.

I'm pretty certain that if the NFL started playing Friday night games most high schools and their supporters (including the grandpa typing this) would have a wall-eyed fit. Maybe after mid-December but in the high school hotbeds of TX, PA, CA, OH, FL...

It was bad enough when my grandsons played JV games on Thursday nights while the NFL was on. But it was JV and those of us at the games fought through it. Varsity would be a whole lot bigger snake in the barrel.

I love the color rush unis. I think it's good for teams to change it up every now and then, as long as it's just on occasion and doesn't get out of hand like some college teams.

If the University of Oregon never successfully managed to remind me to buy new highlighters I doubt that the NFL will have any more success. People will just have to accept that I will underline points in text which I wish to emphasize.

i'm fine with the color rush, its a fun idea. some are a little dull though and look too much like their regular uniforms

they should just go crazy with it and put every team in a color that isn't one of their team colors (chiefs in blue, raiders in yellow, etc)

I'm going to assume that these horrible, unnecessary Thursday games are contributing to the current NFL over-saturation which is tanking the ratings across the board.

The ratings decline cannot be blamed on the Presidential debate cycle. Over-saturation is a big deal, along with over-officiating and many other aspects. Thursday games have to be a big one, though.
