Pretty clutch HR by Zeke tonight. Too bad Boston thwomped Baltimore. Onto the next.

The fake tough guy routine in baseball has to be my least favourite aspect of the sport. Having the benches all clear at a casual walking pace is stupid grandstanding

Leaving the bench/bullpen = automatic suspension. Problem solved. Baseball simply wants this kind of nonsense to continue.

Let's face it, nobody really minds the occasional bench clearing incidents. The fans at the stadium like it, the team gets a chance to bond over it and it makes for good press. Adding a little drama to a slower, more methodical game like baseball is never a bad idea imo. If the bench clearing does devolve into a brawl and punches are thrown, then there are already suspensions and fines in place to deal with that. The way MLB currently handles this issue is fine.

So in other words, the brawl in Texas should have been the entire Rangers starting line up vs Bautista? That's what it would have been if the Jays didn't leave the bench.

Have the same rule for players on the field engaging in a brawl: Automatic suspension. It's not complicated stuff. If there's a disincentive, people will stop. If there are zero repercussions, it will continue.

I don't like it, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people that feel like it just slows down the game and makes it look ridiculous. People said the same thing about fighting in hockey, which is being phased out and has already been reduced to less half the frequency of what it was 6 years ago. Vigilante justice and "let them police themselves" attitude is growing out of favour.

Fighting in hockey is being phased out because of very different reasons though. They're cutting it down after enforcers began committing suicide and scans of their head showed significant brain damage. The NHL likely doesn't give a crap about safety, but they don't want to deal with the lawsuits. And scrums still happen in almost every hockey game (which are similar to bench clearing incidents in baseball where no punches are thrown). What is being phased out in hockey is staged fights between two guys whose only role on the team is to fight. Baseball never had that in the first place.

I don't think there needs to be any changes made. Bench clearing "brawls" are so rare these days and I think the odd one does kind of liven up the crowd and can be a nice change from the monotony of the 162 game regular season. If they caused more injuries, my opinion would probably be different, but 99% of the time there isn't any real risk of significant injury.

Only thing that really has to be tightened up on as far as vigilante justice goes is pitchers throwing at batters, which would be the closer analogy to fights in hockey imo. It's ridiculous there isn't more of penalty for a pitcher who clearly intentionally throws a 90+mph pitch at another person.

Nice job getting out of that inning so quickly after the failed bunt attempt, usually Jays do that.

Stroman playing with fire with these walks, but defense is looking a lot sharper today.

Dan was talking about first rounder TJ zeuch being at the game. Not that it matters cause he isn't going to be in a game but at least it shows he's intrigued by the prospects of pitching here.
