A) They're probably using an out of the box solution for the forum. The web developer might have his hands tied in certain ways
B) Ads are always a hassle. Ad code is sketchy and for the most part, poorly written. Often written by non-developers or not very good developers
C) I've offered to do some freelance for them a couple of times. Haven't heard a response.

Popups and 404s on realgm

Post#22 » by Double Helix » Tue Sep 13, 2016 5:34 pm

Digging around a little it sounds like Android users have had access to this newer version of the app for a few months but the iOS version only went live 6 days ago. Prior to that it was the same app as from 2015. It is built off tapatalk and no, for whatever reason, it still doesn't support the embedded tweets. You still have to flip to web view within app to see what a tweet is. Gif and video and picture embeds all work much better than on the older iOS app. Still no Instagram or vine embed in the app.

The average smartphone user has a quad core phone with a screen that's up to 2500+ pixels, yet we have to have a special app to view a website that can't show images wider than ~800 pixels and crashes whenever the Raps acquire a TPE...

I always "no thanks" apps. They are no better than conventional sites and I don't do internet through phones. But.. with iPad or iPad mini you still get these annoying app requests. Not interested. My online quest is to avoid tracking and ads and apps seem counter to this. I loaded the Westjet wifi app only to find out they wanted to bill my credit card to go online in flight. No thanks.

I pay a service provider at home so expect an ad free experience. Not interested in the net polluted by useless e-commerce, hype and promotions.

I disable JavaScript most of the time if browse reading. It is almost hysterical to see a Mr. clean youtube ad in 2016 complete with 1950's jingle. Mute, take sip of water, oh look the content is back. Advertising is dead. It is dead because it insults the intelligence of would be consumers.

If I look at site for travel and then it keeps hammering me with the same info in the form of ads I just disable that sht. Now if they floated different pricing as enticement ads might get interesting but they don't they just play back a commercial browsing experience with all the same pricing so what is new in that experience? It is like an echo of something you showed interest in at a previous time.

It is noise and apps just facilitate that.

LOL, sure. It's not like advertising is the core of Alphabet's business. Advertising pays for many of the websites most people use - including this one.

Having said that, I get the annoying redirects too. It's a google ads thing I think. It happens on other sites I use too.

Google chrome on iPhone is equally awful. Keep getting redirected to some app page every 5 seconds.

I've notified the admins about these ads. Been a problem for a while, unfortunately.

We now have a single ad network for all Canadian inventory so it will be easier for us to identify issues like these. We've let them know and they will hopefully resolve it ASAP. We apologize for the inconvenience and hassle.
