Not sure he says he will so much as just acknowledges that it'll be present in the NBA season.

Kinda clickbaity
He doesn't say anything about supporting him, he was just talking about how he expects players to do so.

Because of the person doing it and how he is doing it, the message is lost and the debate has shifted and that is unfortunate because Kap is right in that change is needed.

I bet oladipo does nothing even if he wants to... he's in a new spot and has too much riding on his season. Also, you can always count on him to say "at the end of the day" twice in one quote.

I don't think such a protest would go over well in OKC.. Not exactly a beacon of progressiveness and diversity.
I don't expect many, if any, NBA players to protest but they can still help spread the message.

You'd be surprised...it's pretty conservative but the city is only 60% white. Pretty significant African-American, Latino, and Asian-American populations.
Some people might get their noses bent a little out of joint, but we're not Alabama.

I think his stated goal is correct (for the most part) but his execution is poor.

Misleading title of thread. He didn't say that. He said he wouldn't be surprised if NBA players did it.

Dipo is not going to protest that way but he has spoken to players that "might." This is not the place to get into another political issue, but I just hope our players find more relevant and meaningful ways if they plan to protest.

Right I realize that now. Oops.
In any case, probably good for a little discussion.

Re: Oladipo plans to support Kaepernick in protest
For the record, there are a lot of people of color and "progressives" that respect the flag and the country too much to engage in or support this action of "protest".
The whole thing is misguided. Only in this country would you have an entire body of law dedicated to protecting minorities and severely punishing those that target and harm minorities, only to have that country disrespected the way we do here.
I agree that police force in many cases is excessive. I also agree that a lot of departments cover their boys when they mess up, and that's sickening. Trying to shift this type of thing to be a republican or democratic issue is honestly just ignorant and foolish. We should probably start getting away from this idea that white=backward thinking racist redneck while anything else=oppressed but progressive and righteous. Each situation is case by case and the fact that dbrandon has to defend Oklahoma by automatically pointing out almost apologetically that "we 'only' have 60% white population... we aren't Alabama" illustrates that idea pretty well. (Not swiping at you Brandon, I'm sure OKC is wonderful and your point was taken well).
If you really want to protest the police, go park your car in the general parking lot of the event, walk a couple of blocks without security to get to the stadium, demand that there not be any security keeping people from running onto the field or court, then make your statement.

Re: Oladipo plans to support Kaepernick in protest
I really don't care about this topic personally either way as it is just something that makes both sides angry, but I read somewhere that the NBA, unlike the NFL, has it in the rules that you do have to stand or you get penalized/fined or something. Anyone know if that is true or is that something to deter NBA athletes from protesting? Just a thought, but I bet they wouldn't do anything if a big star like LeBron did it..

This whole story is getting old. Look at that Kaep's jersey is all of a sudden selling like crazy and people care about him now. No chance that was a factor.

It wasn't. Because of revenue sharing, he gets the same amount for jersey sales he always did.

he generates publicity and interest, but is that worth something even it is negative?

You should be grateful for the police and security you have in America.
You all couldn't live a single day in Brazil.

I feel like the perception is pretty positive. No one knew who he was before. Now reading the comments on Facebook, you'd think people have been fans of this guy forever. Whether he generated financially from his popularity is one thing, but he definitely is a household name now. I think it was mission accomplished in that sense. Just my opinion.

Why is this getting more outrage from Americans than westboro baptist church's protests?
let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...
