Hawks at LA Rams

Post#1 » by Cactus Jack » Thu Sep 15, 2016 6:08 am

I expect another low scoring defensive battle. Both defensive lines should control the game for the most part.

The Rams will show up for this one. Another nail biter.

Prediction: 16-13 Hawks

The Key to this one is starting fast... get out in front and Gurly is neutralized.

Our line was 22nd in quality blocking last week.

:nonono: Not good enough.

I was really hoping they would prioritize the O-line this off-season. Outside of drafting Ifedi, they didn't. Sowell & Webb are journeyman tackles that aren't starting quality on a contender. Its very disappointing. I want an O-line like Dallas. The ability to control games. Run & pass. Win in the trenches. We didn't make it back to the Super Bowl due to this problem. If we want to get back, we have to fix it!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2016/09/15/seahawks-and-russell-wilson-could-finally-pay-the-price-for-ignoring-offensive-line/#comments

Seahawks, and Russell Wilson, may finally pay the price for ignoring offensive line

From 2012-15, here are the Seahawks’ draft picks along the offensive line:

2012: None

2013: Ryan Seymour, G, 7th round; Michael Bowie, T, 7th round

2014: Justin Britt, T, 2nd round; Garrett Scott, T, 6th round

2015: Terry Poole, G, 4th round; Mark Glowinski, G, 4th round; Kristjan Sokoli, G/DT, 6th round

Just 2 starters drafted in 4 years.

From 2013-15 the line has never finished higher than 26th in pass-blocking and 22nd in run-blocking as a team in Pro Football Focus’s grading system. The current incarnation of the Seattle offensive line may be the best they’ve had in some time, but that isn’t saying much. They signed career backups Bradley Sowell (left tackle) and J’Marcus Webb (guard) this offseason and both were thrust into starting roles Week 1 with predictably poor results. Justin Britt looks much more competent at center and left guard Mark Glowinski had a solid preseason, but Garry Gilliam has shown little to no improvement so far after he was the fourth-lowest graded right tackle in 2015.

Russ shouldn't be out there with this awful line

Rawls looks like crap, so him being out is probably good

Lockett... damn

I asked last week why can't the offense be ready to play in week one. I now repeat this question in week two. It should not take 5-6 weeks for the offense to be ready to play

Boykins...

My recap last week included a piece about Kearse developing a nasty rep for offensive interference that might bite us... and that unfortunately was very true

My recap this week:

-RW held onto the ball to long when he did have time. That's not the ankle, that's something he did early last year too.
I hope he survives to learn that lesson again in one piece.

-Rawls aint right, that's bad news, but C-Mike deserves full first reps.

-Britt, surprisingly looked like he had one of the better games on the line again.
-Glowinski looks bad
-Sowell looks worse
-Ifedi come back!

-Richardson actually looked like an NFL player at times agin
-Graham might be worthy of more targets

-Angry Doug and Lockett both look like they got banged up

-Frank Clark will probably lead the team in sacks at this rate.
-on a related note Avril needs to start dropping strip sack pressure again
-on another related note I'm not seeing turnover D being played, we're cautious. Pretty good D, but not game changing.

-2016 has been a crap year to watch so far outside of a few scant minutes.

wishful thinking: Kearse and a 2nd could get us a real left tackle.

I joked with a Cowboy fan on another forum, that we would swap Kam for Tyron Smith (Their franchise LT). I would do anything to pull off that kind of deal at this point lol.

I didn't watch the 2nd half, only listened to it on the radio (Which was likely in my best interest anyhow). But, the same issues kept popping up. Penetration in the backfield. Really nowhere for Rawls to run. Have to credit their good defensive front. But, this is happening far too often. Its the beginning of last year just repeating itself  . Far too many penalties at the wrong times. Pete's teams have always racked them up. But, today was beyond ridiculous. Can't win. Unless this team makes serious adjustments, we will likely win 8-10 games again & maybe get a wildcard. No Super Bowl. :banghead:
