I feel like the perception is pretty positive. No one knew who he was before. Now reading the comments on Facebook, you'd think people have been fans of this guy forever. Whether he generated financially from his popularity is one thing, but he definitely is a household name now. I think it was mission accomplished in that sense. Just my opinion.

People definitely knew who Kap was before this. He was in a Super Bowl a couple years ago and very successful in college. His sales jumped, but he was a huge name already.

Right. I'm a football fan, I know who he is. But now my mom knows who he is. People all over Facebook know who he is. Obviously football fans remember him playing Baltimore. He is a bench player now, definitely wouldn't say he was remotely close to a big name before this "protest". He was ready to be cut from the 9ers.

Because its the NFL and theres alot more interest in the players than some nutbag religious wackos who have 40 members of their church in total.

I am not a huge NFL fan at all but I still knew Kaepernick was a pretty big name.

OKC Thunder star Victor Oladipo says he will NOT follow Colin Kaepernick's lead and protest the National Anthem when the NBA season kicks off ... but he wouldn't be surprised if another NBA player did.
Oladipo spoke to TMZ Sports to clarify comments he made during an interview with Complex Sports -- in which he was quoted as saying, "I truly believe" the protest will transfer to the NBA.
But Victor says some people have twisted his words -- and wrongly implied that his interview was an endorsement of Colin. Now, he wants to make it clear ... it was NOT.

I really don't care about this topic personally either way as it is just something that makes both sides angry, but I read somewhere that the NBA, unlike the NFL, has it in the rules that you do have to stand or you get penalized/fined or something. Anyone know if that is true or is that something to deter NBA athletes from protesting? Just a thought, but I bet they wouldn't do anything if a big star like LeBron did it..

I'm not certain, but Mahmoud Abdul Rauf made a similar protest many years back and he was punished for it. He was also widely criticized by the media. He worked out something with the NBA where they permitted a less visible form of protest.

i was just about to post something about that. that's most likely where they'll end up going with these protests should they happen.

Because of the person doing it and how he is doing it, the message is lost and the debate has shifted and that is unfortunate because Kap is right in that change is needed.

I think his stated goal is correct (for the most part) but his execution is poor.

Yeah it's a shame that the focus is being placed on the action and not the message.

But then again, I'm not sure what kind of protest will keep observers on topic? The media and a lot of the general public will always prefer to talk about straw man tangents rather than confronting the bigger issue.

I do think the nba players will do something, but i don't know if it will be not standing for the anthem. Players are talking about the issue. Russell Westbrook posted something on his page about an incident in Tulsa. It is not considered a protest, just a posting.

It will get filed with Kapernick but really people have been saying things before CK did what he did. Did you all know Elfrid posted something on his twitter a couple of months ago about the police in Gretna? That's the thing though, people say things about the subject and it is mostly ignored. This action takes placed and it got attention, although the action was misplaced. The subject is still getting ignored though so it can't really be called an effective protest.

This is how I feel. As long as they play good basketball, I could care less.

Yet, I may do my part and sit on my couch during the National Anthem.
