Judging from the 9 page Yi thread this one should be interesting .

He'll be here all year... I'll even go out on a limb and say we'll be resigning him at the end of the year.

He's so much better than people think he is and he fits well into the type of offense we're trying to run.

Low 40's

But he's on minimum + incentives so I don't have any expectations.

it depends on how much the Lakers want to spend for marketing. Basically, the Lakers can waive Yi at any point of the season and pay him based on the number of games he has played.... or just sit him on the bench and not have to pay him. Essentially, Yi is getting paid minimum NBA hourly wage. It's the best contract possible for a team owner. The Lakers get a decent player who they can market their team to 1.7 billion people on the planet for about the same cost of a scrub backup NBA player.

As for Yi, he gets to spend more time with his wife and two young sons who have been living in L.A. It's a good contract for Yi as well, as he gets to spend time with family. Asians are all about the family yo.

He'll last the season, if not more.

I think he'll be a pleasant surprise. Added punch off the bench in spurts. He's more physically ready and more mature now. People forget he had some solid moments at time in his early career. He'll be better now.

He will probably stick around for the year. He is primarily a trade bait, and I really don't think this management will be able to use him for any meaningful trades.

WTF type of thread is this ? For one Yi showed on several occasions against the USA team that he was a different player. I fully expect him to be here all season.

Should be year the whole year unless he plays well and we do trade with him. I don't see us taking him on next year.

With Kobe done with the Lakers, the organization is in desperate need of a player who can make money for the franchise. Sure the kids are slowly but surely gaining popularity everyday, but Yi is a chinese ball player and we all know how much they love their chinese ball players in the NBA.

Clearly this move was made a potential trade bait/revenue builder for the Lakers. Anyone who watches basketball knows Yi's stats are what they are because it's Chinese Basketball.. I'm pretty sure i could put up 12 and 6 everynight over there.

Maybe he'll surprise me and a lot of Laker fans, but i don't see him lasting that long. Especially when we're already loaded at the frontcourt. Robinson has been working out with the Lakers all summer so he very well could sneak in for the final spot.

marketing excersise, 1 season i think until they can build up another star with some pull in China (their will never be another Kobe though in that regard, pretty sure he was the most popular non-asian sportsperson over there ever)

Will you fly me out to China? Maybe you could record some video of me and we could put it on Youtube.

Does RGM get blocked by China's firewall? How about a one-way ticket?

Probably does :( One way ticket works as well. I'll go drop 12 and 6 vs a bunch of Kobe-Wannabes and then i'll fly on back, hop on the fourm, and discuss with you all why we have the worst record in the west again! 8-)
