Trading for Shooting & Spacing

Just wanted to see how we can address
our need for shooting and spacing, so tried
out this trade:

IND gets:
• Trevor Ariza
• Kyle Korver
• Thabo Sefalosha

– Shooting, spacing + added wing D we lost with departure of GHill
– We get older as all incoming players are above 30

HOU gets:
• C.J. Miles
• Lavoy Allen

– C.J. replaces Ariza's offense (almost similar) and HOU gets a competent back-up PF/C in Allen
– might need to throw-in a pick HOU's way (2nd Rounder?)

ATL gets:
• Monta Ellis
• Glenn Robinson III

– 3rd scorer behind Howard and Millsap who can create his own shot in Monta
– young, cheap 3-D type in GR3

Possible rotation for IND:

5 – Turner/Al Jeff/Seraphin
4 – T.Young/Seraphin/Niang
3 – Ariza/Korver/Niang
2 – George/Stuckey/Sefalosha
1 – Teague/Brooks/J.Young

Disclaimer:
Apart from production/recall, dunno how
significantly valued the players coming
to IND are in their previous teams.

Obviously, I'm a Pacer fan so this may
look one-sided. Just wanted to make
conversation on the board.

Well, I certainly don't see Atlanta having any interest in that deal. I don't see Monta having a meaning there, with Atlanta giving up Teague to put the ball in Schroeder's hands more. I also don't see GR3 having any value whatsoever to anyone else in trade. In the last 2 years, every team in the league has had multiple chances to claim or sign him, and he sat and languished until we got him for the most team friendly deal possible of long term control, no guaranteed future money, and minimum salaries.

Ultimately, I think Monta's value is one of the hardest to gauge around the league. He's vilified for his high usage and low defense, though he's shown he can play ok defense in a team setting here. Either his offensive skills have waned, or he had a down year with his elbow injury, and being pushed to 2nd, or even 3rd, fiddle. His contract looks more affordable in this risen cap, but the situations in where he fits are extremely numbered.

I've seen nothing suggesting that Bird is unhappy with Ellis and Teague starting together. I know lots of fans are unhappy but I don't think the front office feels the same way. I don't think they are so stubborn that they won't explore trades in December or January if the plan isn't going well, but I think the current roster will start the season.

Good for Indiana considering Ariza is also a good perimeter defender. Korver is aging but will still be valuable in limited minutes.

Not sure why Houston would want it though. They have a logjam at 4 and CJ Miles is not in the same tier as Ariza.

I see Atlanta wanting this, as Korver is too old to start. He is fast declining and it looks like Bazemore will slide into that starting 2 spot sooner with Tim Hardaway or Taurean Prince starting at 3. Robinson would then provide a somewhat decent back-up role.

Not sure if Indiana would want this though. Monta Ellis, in my opinion, is an underrated playmaker.

Easy pass for Atlanta.
Korver may be old but he is penciled in at the SG spot to start the season. THJr will be Korver's backup.
Bazemore starts at SF. Thabo is the backup to Bazemore until rookie Prince is ready.
The hope is that Prince develops quickly where Bazemore can move to SG with Korver off the bench.
Already have 2 new starters to incorporate in the system don't need a 3rd.

I know it is just preseason, but Stuckey tonight had 21 points and went 4/4 from beyond the arc. If he looks more like this version of Stuckey, or the one from his first season here, a trade for shooting might not be necessary.

If preseason is anything to go by, everyone has been stepping up their shooting practice this offseason.
