Which former Piston would you add? (Restriction)
Which former Piston would you add to this team for one season?
Restrictions -
Never played in an all-star game
Played at least two seasons with the Pistons
You get him at his peak with the Pistons
Played with Pistons in 1980 or later

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Tayshaun.
Not even that difficult a call. Certainly the best Piston never to make an all star game, perfect glue guy who plays our weakest position.

Maybe Vinnie Johnson? Don't think he ever made an All-Star game.

That "no all star games" rule really makes it tough!
My vote's gonna to to Lindsey Hunter, for the years right before he left DET for the first time (1998-2000). He had developed into a ~40% 3pt shooter and we all know the defense he brought to the table. He'd be the perfect bench combo guard, backing up Reggie at the point and occasionally playing with him in a "small ball" lineup.
A few other names to consider: Prince (as Snake already posted); Terry Mills (1993-95); Bison Dele (1998).

Yeah, Hunter for sure would have been another guy I'd have thought of. Tayshaun was just a much better overall player, and a lot more consistent too.
Mills is another great option, though we already have 4 ranged players who can play power forward.
Bison Dele is a bit of a relic. He would not fit well with Drummond and would clog up the lane. That was an issue even when he was on our team in the 90s, and it would be an even bigger issue now in the modern NBA and with Drummond already.
EDIT: John Long never made an all star team. He'd be pretty interesting.

IMHO, Prince is clearly the best player in Pistons history to never get an all star nod. That said, he's a strict SF and our current squad already has Morris / Harris / SJ to cover those minutes. That's literally the only reason I tilted to Hunter (well, that plus the thought of a Hunter / KCP defensive unit back court!).
And I was thinking of Dele as Drummond's back up, not his front court partner.
Lastly, GREAT pull on John Long! He was a prototypical 3&D SG before 3&D SG's were a thing. If he'd played in this era he'd be Danny Green, camped out in the short corner and stroking three point set shots.

Yeah, honestly I feel like if this option was actually available I'd take Tayshaun because he's the best and look for a trade of one of those other guys. I think that highly of the guy and how he'd fit with what we've got.

Vinnie Johnson, or Lindsey Hunter, what about Allan HOuston was he a all star maybe ounce. Brandon knight maybe, Alvin Robertson, Mills, Prince, we drafted Ricky pierce and had him for a couple years, he won 6th man a couple times.

Houston was my first thought too, but he made an all star game.
Per the OP we'd be getting the guy when he played for the Pistons, not at his absolute peak. That means we'd get Pierce or Knight pre-prime and Robertson post-prime. Which especially sucks for Robertson, 'cuz he would've been a great pick.

My first thought was tay. I really think he'd be a perfect 4 in today's NBA. Not all the time, but a lot.

Re: Which former Piston would you add? (Restriction)
Current Middleton (before KCP) is a clear upgrade on current KCP, certainly.
I'd consider John Salley as well. He wouldn't have a huge impact, but a nice mobile big defender is a role we don't really have covered.

This is a tough call between Long and Tay for me. Tay is the better player, but depth at the two and more reliable outside shooting are greater needs.

Peak as a Piston, not peak as a player. That would eliminate Middleton. It would have to be either VJ, Tay, or John Long.

In that case I'll take Vinnie
BTW, it sucks we can't pick Middo - he's exactly what we need
Just imagine what could have been:
Dre
Monroe
Middo
KCP
Knight
And then Joe signed Josh Smith & traded for Brandon Jennings!
Anyone still blame Gores for that given what we've seen & heard since SVG was hired?

It's really a 3-way tie between Vinnie, Tayshaun, and Lindsey Hunter imo.

Re: Which former Piston would you add? (Restriction)
Tay is the sexy pick. Above average starter. Versatile. Consistent. But I take a hard pass. Even in his prime he was a ball stopper and that is not what we need. He was a good but not great individual defender. His team defense was great but it was Big Ben protecting the rim that allowed him to use his length so effectively and Dre isn't there yet.
I think we could use Hunters defense faaaar more than VJ''s offense, especially given who the starter is.
