Welcome Ty Lawson

Post#1 » by Mr Gametime » Mon Aug 29, 2016 3:49 pm

Ty Lawson has agreed to a one year deal with the Kings. I think this is a great move and he has the potential to start this season with Collison taking a sixth man role.

He has the talent to start but I don't think he's going to win himself any points with Joerger defensively unless he shows something there he never has.

Darren Collison is getting overlooked quite a bit. I'd take a gander at his stats the last few years and last year in particular.

I'm really happy.

And our bench needs the potential isolation scoring from Lawson more than the starting unit. So I'd prefer Collison starting but possibly a 20 mpg back up role for Lawson.

SacKingZZZ is right about the defense, that can be minimized some vs other bench units.

If receptive, Lawson would make an ideal PG for the second unit, imo.

We needed a PG, and in terms of talent, Ty Lawson is by far the best option that was left. Beats Seth Curry, and it's a 1 year deal, so the downside is minimal. WCS is going to have his hands full covering for Ty's fire hydrant defense though, and I hope the Kings have a support structure set up for Ty, or he could go downhill in a hurry. Alcoholism is not a joke.

If he's got his head on straight, he's a great talent. He'll probably be willing to play off the bench just because he wants/needs to redeem himself. Wishing him the best and believing the Kings are a good fit for him.

Yeah, I guess the hope is that he can bring the productivity at PG the Kings had last year off the bench with Collison now starting.

I'm not sure if anyone has picked up on this yet, but Lawson's deal is fully non-guaranteed. Very little risk on the King's part. Love this pick up for them.

I love this pickup as well given the minimal risk. The only thing that kind of irks me is that I envision it going the way it went with Rondo last year: sign a past star PG who has been censured by essentially the entire league, sign him to a 1 year deal and give him the opportunity in the thin Kings backcourt, he brings himself back to relevance with his play and leaves to sign with another team.

If Lawson does indeed help this team and plays well, I hope we can keep him long term.

Someone needs to add the "it's a trick!" meme. lol
But seriously I would be weary of this now, there is just something about George Karl that I don't trust.

Odd he signs after Karl leaves. I wonder what MINN wants for Rubio.

I don't know why but I keep running into these hilarious things related to Lawson. Obviously this site has no credibility but I literally laughed out loud at that headline.

Well, it might make the decision between he and Farmar a bit easier, although by all accounts Ty was playing pretty darn good BBall. Oh well, hopefully this is all just a misunderstanding.

SSDD...What a shame, thought SAC was a nice opportunity for Lawson.
