Re: New Rumors and News Thread
The likeyhood of Noel going somewhere else is slimmer than Okafor due to his restricted free agency this upcoming offseason. If he demands 20mil per year, that would have a systematic effect on every teams cap intentions leading into Free Agency this upcoming off season, unless that plan was to specifically go after Noel anyhow. I dont think the C's want Noel for 20mil, and if they do, they wont pay much to get him cause he'd likely sign with Boston anyhow considering his affinity for the City. But if they do want him at his asking price, that closes the window on AB most likely. They cant afford everyone at 15 mil plus. The money just isn't there.

Kevin O'Connor @KevinOConnorNBA
Noel didn't look eager to stop talking about things not working in Philly as Sixers PR said "that's it" for questions. Noel kept answering.

I get what Noel is saying but Embiid hasn't exactly been reliable...well ever. These things tend to work themselves out. Not going to lie though I thought Noel or Okafor would have been moved this past off season.

Report today that Jared Dudley made his interest in signing here known, but we never called him. He would have been a better option than Green and we need shooters, so I'm not sure what happened there.

Yeah that's the weird part is it was one of the least successful pairings of all time last year and now they are just throwing 3 other guys in the front court mix.

I hear that. Everyone knows Philly has a big man logjam, but if I am them, I'm not dealing anyone for the sake of it until Embiid proves he's healthy. He has the highest potential out of their centers and everyone else is just going to have to live with the wait for now.

The trade always has been Smart for Noel and the clock is ticking for philly. Ainge is squeezing them and doing an excellent job of it

I think we want to do Rozier for Noel.. Hoping Philly can't find anything else and lowers their asking price.
I'm really interested in our cap management, whether we can add Noel, or someone else, and still keep max room for Durant, Hayward, whoever. Noel's going to have a 10 million dollar hold, Olynyk 8 million. Bradley's on the books for 8 million.
Cap room obviously matters at the draft, too, if we're holding a top 3 pick and looking into dealing it straight to absorb the money of someone like Cousins.
Just seems like we're stuck, right now.

I'd rather deal smart than Rozier personally.

Some morons on the Sixers board think Avery Bradley *and* one of the next 2 BRK picks would be a good trade.
Unbelievable.

Yeah not even worth having a discussion about it. I would love to get Noel for the right price. If not, I'll still goto war with this team as it's currently constructed.

That is a ridiculous proposal but so is one based around Terry Rozier in my opinion. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle.

It usually is.
I love mobile defensive-minded centers and my only real objection to going after him is his RFA status. Not because I'm worried about having to pay him $20 million per year or whatever. My concern is that contract's impact on the C's ability to bring in the superstar they so badly need. Maybe someone can answer this question: Would his contract situation be one of this situations where his cap hold would be low enough that the C's could sign or trade for a star and then resign Noel?
If that is the case, then I'd probably be willing to trade Smart for him more or less straight up. But, then again, I'm kind of a Smart hater.

Celtics would probably need to renounce KO to make the cap numbers work with the current projected cap at $102M.
Maybe best to wait and see until after a new CBA is ratified, IF there's a new one by mid-December. Noel's trade value is more likely to go down than up anyway considering Philly's situation.
EDIT: Noel's cap hold is nearly $11M; KO's at $7.7M.

I normally don't bother with other team forums, but I firmly believe that a Noel/Rozier-based trade is much closer to reality (even if I don't personally believe it's realistic at *this* stage) than a Noel/Bradley+BRK pick trade. Utter insanity.

He wanted 8-10 million per and Gerald green got the minimum...that's why

The short answer is, it depends on what went out to get Noel. If Bradley is the piece going out then you can hypothetically make enough room for a full 10+ year max, though it would require serious contortions to do so. (Trade is less of a problem: if you want to trade for a guy making 20mil, and you only have 15mil of cap space, you just need to send out 5mil, and the other team gets a 15mil TPE.)
Longer answer:
Horford, Noel, Bradley, Crowder, Thomas, Brown, Smart, and the '17 BRK pick, plus the required incomplete roster holds, already take you down to about 26mil in space, which means the 7-9 year and 10+ year maxes are off the table. And that's if you wholesale cut, renounce, trade away, or keep stashed absolutely everyone else, without taking any salary back.
Now, you're still short: to fit a 7-9 year max, you need to shed another ~3mil, and to fit a 10+ year max, another ~8mil.
It doesn't seem likely for Brown, Smart, and the Brooklyn pick to be moved unless they're returning a major piece, which means major salary coming back. So, the simplest way to fit Noel and a 7-9 or 10+ year max is to send Bradley to the Sixers. That's going to let you keep everyone else on the above list, plus, if you get a 7-9 year max, leaves you a few mil in space to hold on to a couple of the Roziers/Yabus of the world (but not if you get a 10+ year max).
Also remember that one of the few max-level FAs who might be available is Griffin, and you're not going to field a Griffin/Horford/Noel front line...
I believe that if you get Noel, you're just about locked into trade/draft-only improvement paths.
