2016 Week 4 - Somewhere near the city by the bay...

Post#1 » by Otis Driftwood » Wed Sep 28, 2016 11:42 am

This is going to be a good test for Dak and the offense. Niners defense is good at all three levels. Gonna require some patience and "letting the game come to them".

Defense has made some plays. Crawford has looked OK on the outside and it's probably where he needs to stay. Hopefully we can handle the Niners running game. It's the key for this untrained eye. Because - Gabbert is not scaring me one bit. And according to my buddies on the West Coast, Kap is not ready to play.

This is a good opportunity for a win. 3-1 would look good with the Bengals coming to town next week.

Stopping Carlos Hyde will be the key for us and not turning the ball over. We should be fine if we do those two things.

Just listened to David Moore (DMN Cowboys beat writer) on the Ticket. It appears Dez will definitely be out this week. Sources talk about a "timeframe" for him to be out which would indicate more than a week or two... but he will not be put on IR which eliminates any long-term down time.

Did something happen in the general board last night? I see many of the individual divisional treads and a few others seem to have been deleted, like the NFC East, the AFC South and AFC West threads were also missing.

Don't know. Maybe they purged some of Ernie's fine work and had to just blow away the threads.

I hope it wasn't my joking comment when it was announced J.J. Watt was out for the year. I think Jwise got upset with me when I said look at the good side, at least Watt can spend more time doing commercials and dancing with Ellen. I thought it was funny anyway.

Wow. The 49ers must be bad. We are a 4 point favorite in San Francisco.

I'm sure there is a lot of stupid money flowing Dallas' way. Vegas clearly sees the trend. I took Dallas and gave the points in the weekly pick site but I didn't really dig it. Very low confidence points on this one.

When I break down the game, I can't see us losing the game unless we decide as a team to just be silly with turn overs and Carlos Hyde runs wild on us.

Boy, doesn't this match up bring back a lot of memories? The first 2 NFC championship games in 1970 & 71 and during the 90's. The Super Bowl for about 5 years was the NFC championship game.

Well something has happened. A few threads have been completely deleted, the activity was almost dead last evening and night and no Ernie. Weird.

Can't forget the '72 Divisional game... an all time favorite unless you're a Niners fan. The ones I know were crushed by that game until "The Catch"...

Yes, the comeback victory in the last 2 minutes of the game where Staubach finally took the QB reigns forever from Craig Morton. That's why the 49 whiners always hated us. We beat them 3 years in a row and knocked them out of the playoffs. They sure got revenge with Montana though. Over all, I believe we have done very well vs. the 49 whiners in the playoffs historically.

But we got crushed the following week to the Foreskins in the NFC championship. hayes was hurt and couldn't play and Stauback got knocked out of the game early in that one. I believe we lost that game 26 - 3 if my memory serves me correct. I remember being so heart broken losing that game. I was still a young kid. Always hated those guys; kilmer, Jergenson, Jefferson, Chris Hanburger and their damn coach, George Allen, etc.

Staubach didn't get knocked out... he got yanked.. There is the rare game where you can observe in hindsight Roger sucked. That is one.

But - mention Billy Parks or Ron Sellers to any long time Whiners fan and watch their faces turn ashen. They HAD that game in the bag! Then Roger came in and destroyed them.

With the help of Mel Renfro's recovery of an on side kick. You sure Stauback got yanked in that game? I could have sworn he was knocked out of the game due to concussion. I guess I could be wrong. I was just a kid and that was over 43 years ago. I must be getting senile, lol.

Oh, never mind. I was a year ahead of myself. I was thinking of the following year when Roger introduced Drew Pearson into the league when they beat the Rams. That was the game we lost Calvin Hill and we got demolished by the Vikings the following week in the NFC championship game.

Cowboys confirm - Randy Gregory's suspension lengthened to 14 games.

No surprise.

that was expected. You have any updates on the progress of Jaylon Smith. Mr. B usually keeps me updated but he must be away or on vacation. He hasn't been around in a while.

Not a peep. Not surprising either.

But - he and Tapper being out this season sucks. Another case of wasted draft picks if they don't make it. That's on the GM.
