So even if things work out with Prescott and we happen to get lucky in next year's draft and find a nice QB gem, we have to keep Romo for one more year regardless. I know Steven has done a damn good job getting rid of the other bad contracts we had a couple years ago, but I feel handcuffed currently by Romo's contract.

We're only handcuffed for 1 more year. After next year his cap hit drops to like $9 mil if they cut him or trade him. I'm not sure how is works if he retires.

This link provides a good summary of the salary cap implications around Romo.

Not sure if you can remember Roadhog, but do you remember about 4 years ago when we were at the hoop when I posted over there we should clean house and get rid of Romo and the aging Witten and trading Dez bryant. Think what we could be doing no if we didn't have all this money out on these 3 players. just saying seeings how Both Romo and DEz are out and hurt again.

When Romo returns they are going to give his job back however he needs to light it up. If he doesn't I have a good feeling he's going to have to give back some of that money during the off season. There will be a couple of chances to get out from under Romo's contract over the next two years. Witten I believe only has like 1 more year.

First window for Romo will be after 6/1 next year. It will cost us in 2018 but the 2017 hit will be $8.9M. That's manageable.

And yes - 2017 is the last year on Witten's deal.

Each and every time Garrett gives one of "those" pressers (like Tuesday) I want to choke him. Just once I'd love to hear him take a stand with a player like Dez and say "this is unacceptable"... instead of the ish about "he's passionate".

Just another instance where players bypass Garrett and head right for Jerry's office or suite. :banghead:
