Clippers' DeAndre Jordan hopes Kevin Garnett keeps coaching

Jordan began by saying how “amazing” it has been to have Garnett, who retired after 21 NBA seasons, around to share his wisdom with the Clippers.

“He’s so passionate about this game,” Jordan said Friday. “He just retired last week and he’s in the gym helping us out. A lot of guys would be hanging out and relaxing, but he’s got a full-blown sweat before practice — whether he goes lifting [weights] with us or shooting after [practice] with us. You’ve really got to take that and bottle it up as much as possible. I’m going to do just that.”

Jordan said he “idolized” Garnett growing up and as a young player in the NBA.

“His energy rubs off on a lot of people. We’re really fortunate to have him,” Jordan said.

Clippers' DeAndre Jordan returns from Rio with Olympic swagger

Doc Rivers, the Clippers coach and one of the earliest people to declare Jordan a star, has seen more focus since the center returned from Rio. And, he said, the exposure to winning a championship, even as part of the most talented team on the planet, has incredible value.

“I think you understand how when you’re around winning, no matter in what format it is, it’s important. And you realize how hard it is. I guarantee you each guy on the Olympic team thought, ‘We’re on the Olympic team. Look at all of us. We’re just going to go out and win,’” Doc Rivers said. “And they realized it didn’t matter. It’s hard. It’s hard to win, I don’t think people appreciate winning, I really don’t. I think in this day and time, people think you built your team, you should win. I don’t think people ever appreciate how hard it is to win, and I think that’s what DJ got out of that.”

Jordan also got to pick up workout tricks from his teammates, putting in extra work with good friend Kevin Durant after practice and borrowing moves from DeMarcus Cousins during their on-court battles in practice.

“USA Basketball was really great for me this summer, learning a lot of different things from great players and coaches,” Jordan said. “I’m just trying to expand my game as much as possible, and the leadership aspect of USA Basketball has really helped me a lot.”

Players enjoy intensity Kevin Garnett brings to practice, whatever his role is

Clippers coach Doc Rivers wouldn’t open up about what exactly Kevin Garnett’s role with the Clippers is or will be, but the recently retired future Hall of Famer was working with the team’s big men for the second day in a row.

“I don’t know. I’m going to ... we’ll just figure it out,” Rivers said Friday. “If it happens, it’ll be great. But, he’s going to be around enough where it’s official as far as I’m concerned.”

DeAndre Jordan wrote:“... I hope he’s here permanently. I want to do whatever I can do to make that happen.”

“I knew Mo could shoot it, but man,” guard Austin Rivers said. “... He was shooting from deep. I didn’t know he had range like that.”

“He wants to score. Mo wants to score. It’s Mo Buckets,” Austin Rivers said. “... It’s not Mo Defense for sure. It’s Mo Buckets. He wants buckets.”

Jordan Hopes Garnett Sticks Around Permanently

For the second straight day, “The Big Ticket” was the big teacher at Clippers training camp.

Kevin Garnett’s not officially on the Clippers’ staff, but after another day of getting to learn from him, DeAndre Jordan would love to see the 15-time All-Star and recent retiree around as much as possible.

“He’s one of the best players this game’s seen,” Jordan said. “He’s so passionate and intense about the game, and that’s kind of how I am. His energy rubs off on a lot of people.”

Also, Alan Anderson returned to practice today.

Clippers Already See Impact Of Jordan’s Olympic Summer

Head coach Doc Rivers is trying to come up with the right word.

Maybe “swagger” isn’t it, so he uses “professional” to describe DeAndre Jordan’s manner and demeanor as the Clippers go through training camp after a summer that started with a First Team All-NBA nod for Jordan and ended an Olympic gold medal getting placed around his neck.

“The leadership aspect of USA basketball has really helped me out a lot,” Jordan said.

It’s also the feeling of being a key cog of something far bigger, and then getting it done.

It’s exactly the type of start Doc hoped for and continues to expect from a center he believes will continue to grow from a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“The light’s on,” Doc said, “and it’s just going to keep getting brighter.”

The more I look at this thread the more I see KG taking an active and not passive role in the players development. I think he(Garnett) may do more to Blake/DeAndre than Nash did for Curry. Just another one of those ramifications of having Doc has the GM/Coach

Griffin Shows Off Range As Camp Ends With Open Scrimmage

Image

On Saturday, Griffin showed that ability off, comfortably pulling the trigger from deep, particularly from straight on. Griffin’s never shot more than 44 3-pointers in a season, but it appears that could change soon.

“I’m sure we’ll see when the games come how comfortable he is with it,” Paul said. “But, we’ve had the confidence in him for a while.”

Team Black consisted of the starters, with Paul, Griffin, Jordan, J.J. Redick and Luc Mbah a Moute taking the floor against the starters for Team White, which consisted of Speights, Bass, Wesley Johnson, Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers.

Both teams mixed up the combinations on the floor, and the backups kept things tight throughout. While it was a scrimmage, neither side took it lightly. That was particularly evident at the end, with Austin Rivers trying to rile up the crowd as Jordan shot his late free throws.

After it ended, Doc Rivers and DeAndre Jordan thanked the crowd for coming out. Then, the Clippers bid farewell on 2016-17 training camp with a rookie dance-off, further developing the chemistry for a group Rivers believes is the right mesh of players.

“At least right now,” Doc Rivers said. “You never know, but the chemistry, from a coaching standpoint, they were very easy to coach. I hope I’m saying that later.”

Thanks for the better quality mk

Brice Johnson is like the same size as Wesley Johnson

It's also funny how guys still get mad at the refs / calls in scrimmage because that's me, I don't care if it scrimmage, don't make bad calls lol.

No surprise there really, the 16th and 17th guys signed got waived. Wright clearly didn't show himself to be much better than someone like Anderson to earn a spot over him

Coach Doc Rivers, who initially feared he would have to limit Griffin's minutes to start the season, added that he plans on playing Griffin with no minutes restrictions.

"He's been far better [than I anticipated]. There's no holding back. You don't have to," Rivers said. "Just logically thinking going into the year, you thought you may have to. But you don't. That tells you the superb athlete he is, that tells you where his health is, and it's all good news for us."
