Could Andre Drummond put together a Shaq esq season? I'm waiting for it patiently past few seasons, have similar attributes but unlikely he could put it together... 20 15 season isn't very far away if he can hit 50 % at the line?

Re: Drummomd
Probably not.
He's more closer to a young Dwight if anything, obviously minus the defense since Dwight was 3x DPOY, but yeah.

Re: Drummomd
FTs have a big impact on his game. You could see him become less effective later in the season as he looked to always avoid contact. If he can get better at the line and regain the type of impact he was having the 1st couple months 20 and 15 is possible. As far as Shaq goes I couldn't see Dre ever hitting that type of dominant level. Shaq was a straight up monster but Drummond is like a mini Shaq in a sense or closest thing in the NBA right now to him as far as just dominating the paint.

Re: Drummomd
I don't think Dre has the dominator mentality to really want to be one of the all-time greats.

Probably not, Shaq had great touch and one on one scoring its not just FT shooting that separates them.

Could he, definitely. Will he, most likely not. As others have said, defence and free throws limit his potential to do so.

He won't ever even be Dwight. He's good in other ways though.

He hasn't displayed the mindset yet to be viewed as a dominator.
That doesn't mean he won't - not all killers arrive in the league fully armed.

Re: Drummomd
He won't be Shaq. People don't understand that Shaq was more dominant than Kobe, it's really unfair to compare anybody playing the game now with Shaq, there are only a few players that dominated like him. Not even Cousins could be compared with Shaq. Drummond is more like Moses Malone, just a rebounding machine. His defense might become great this season though, he has the tools for it and now he's got the teammates to help him out. Drummond hasn't stopped improving yet so we'll see what happens.

It's not about mentality, it's about talent. It's a crazy thing how a lot of people use to forget how dominant and talented were players like Shaq or Duncan. Put more emphasis on talented when we talk about Shaq and dominant when we talk about Duncan.
Shaq was elite in the post, one of the most skilled players in that area but when you got that size and strength combination, you only need to use your skills in certain situation, because you got easier and more efficient ways to put the ball into the rim.

Drummond will never be Shaq. That's not to his detriment, they are just very different players.
Drummond's story has yet to be written and when the dust settles, he may be remembered as a great player. He's too young to compare against guys who spent 15+ years in the NBA.

Re: Drummomd
I honestly believe if we don't see significant progress from Drummond this season (year 5!) he won't be a "super star" in this league. Historically, stars develop by 23 which is near the beginning of a prime. I'm not knocking him as he will still be a good player and have a successful career, it just limits our championship upside. Make or break year imo. He needs to be at 20, 15, and 2 this year minimum. For comparison, Moses Malone at 23 years old had 24.8 pts 17.6 rebounds per game (he took a big jump from age 22 as well).

It most certainly is about mentality!
The difference in God given gifts is minuscule - what seperates Jordan & Kobe from Vince Carter is mental!
Andre Drummond is blessed with size, speed & athleticism to burn...how long & hard he's willing to work on his craft will be what decides his career, not his physical limitations

Hey, you can shoot 26 hours per day and I guarantee you'll never ever shoot like Curry.
Shaq was a MONSTER between monsters, he makes DeAndre, prime Howard and Dre looks pretty mediocre in comparison with him. It's not mental a guy with that size, weight and strengh could ball like he did.
Damn we're talking about Shaq guys, you can't say it's a mentality thing, because if Shaq have had the Kobe mentality I'm sure we were talking about the uncontested GOAT.

Re: Drummomd
I agree that comparing anybody to Shaq is unfair, but Dre does have the physical attributes to dominate in his own way. When you look at his size, strength, speed and agility he'said kinda like the LBJ or Westbrook of his position. You just don't often see that combination of gifts at that size.
To be sure there is also a huge skill gap there, but his mentality is a huge mitigating factor in terms of maximizing his natural gifts. Even if he never drastically improves his skillet he could still be a dominant 20 & 15 guy when he decides to start playing more of a bullish game. If he does continue to develop he could be even better. Right it's anybody guess whether either of those things whim happen though. I'm hoping for 18 & 14 this year with improved defense and shot blocking.

Re: Drummomd
If he had shot 60% FT and got 2 more FGAs per game at his 52% FG, he would've avg 20 & 15 last year.
FGAs will probably be the biggest determiner of him getting Shaq-like numbers. Hard to avg 27-30 ppg on only 13 FGAs, even if you're a great FT shooter. By comparison, Shaq only shot 49% FT at age 23, but was getting 19-20 FGAs per game. That plus a high FG% contributed more to his scoring than his FTs.
Overall he avg 27 & 11 that year. So the question is if we gave Dre 19 FGAs, could he match Shaq's 57% FG and 49% FT?
I don't think that's that unrealistic. Stan giving him 19 FGAs is probably more unrealistic than him actually being able to do it.
So with said, I'd say 22 & 15 is probably Dre's peak in this system. Which is about what Shaq scored under Stan (23 & 10 on 15 FGAs and 46% FT).
